No fooling around on this first day of April! I’m ready to fire on all cylinders as I’ve got plenty of sports talk to unpack as a new week, month and quarter begin. On deck:

(4:08) I offer an apology to you guys and gals for not publishing my Thursday podcast (after the MLB Preview) due to some unforeseen circumstances. Add in Easter and celebrating a birthday yesterday, it had yours truly running around, enjoying life as I haven’t posted any thoughts on what’s happening in sports on my YouTube channel, social media, etc. I appreciate your patience and understanding as I send a mea culpa to start.

(6:30) March Madness pivots to April as the Final Four in the Men’s tournament is set! You have a Cinderella in #11 seed, NC State. A #4 seed and first time ever visit to a semifinal in Alabama. Then the two #1 seeds in Purdue (first FF since 1980) and UCONN (defending champs) I’ll talk about their journey to this point, including some early headlines of these four teams representing out in Glendale where the Final Four will take place on Saturday night. On the women’s side, there’s lot of intrigue with a regional semifinal tonight where LSU will play Iowa to see who goes onto the Final Four. We know about these rivals dating back to last year’s tournament. NC State has advanced, just like their male counterparts. Can the Lady Huskies do the same with a win tonight vs. USC?

(28:24) The Association is down to the final couple of weeks of the season. It’s a Wild Wild West at the top and bottom of the conference. Lakers continue their winning ways on a current East coast trip, trying to stay ahead of the Warriors for the ninth seed. Golden State keeps winning, where the Rockets had their eleven game winning streak snapped as they’ve tried to keep pace with the Dubs for the final seed out West. Has luck run out for Houston? What about the race for the top seed between OKC, Denver and Minnesota? Who needs it the most? I’ll check on what’s happening out in the East, as it’s not as intriguing, unless you’re interested in the battle of the 3-8 seeds. More importantly, is any lead safe in the NBA? After watching the Celtics blew a 30 point lead to Atlanta last week. And the Bucks coughed up an 18 point fourth quarter lead against a LeBron James-less Lakers team. This could be something to pay attention to come playoff time, although it’s unlikely to happen.

(42:40) Just four days into the baseball season, I’m already living a dark, twisted nightmare. My beloved Mets are 0-3 and the Yankees are 4-0. I’ll explain further as to why this is the case. I’ll discuss some early suspension for two pitchers (Mets Yohan Ramirez and Blue Jays Genesis Cabrera), which teams had a good weekend and who didn’t?

(53:06) On the ice, we’re down to about seven or eight games left of this long season. Are the Rangers the best team in the NHL at the moment? Are they peaking at the right time? I’ll get into their chances of competing for a Cup and take a trip to see what teams are in good stead for making the playoffs, who’s on the cusp and who’s fallen off completely?

(1:02:52) Lastly, there are a few NFL news and notes to dive into. I like the new kickoff rule (adopted from the XFL) Reviewing intentional grounding, roughing the passer and hits out of bounds (Ok?) Moving the trade deadline up to Week 9 (Fine.) Some acquistions last week, highlighted by the Jets acquiring Eagles pass rusher, Haason Reddick (Alright!) Here’s comes the cold water. The Eagles opener in Sao Paolo, Brazil, the Friday game after the likely Chiefs raising the curtain on the season the day before, will be aired on Peacock. (What?!) And there will be two games on Christmas Day, but the holiday falls on a Wednesday! (SERIOUSLY!?) What’s next? A game every day on the NFL calendar?

Closing out another month as I've got plenty to uncover as the sports world doesn't disappoint with October and the fourth quarter of 2023 on the horizon. On deck:

(2:46) The NBA sent shockwaves through the sports landscape yesterday as the Milwaukee Bucks acquired long time Blazers guard Damian Lillard in a three team deal including the Phoenix Suns. Is all the pressure going to be on Dame to deliver another title (and his first) to the Cream City? What about tampering as Heat guard Jimmy Butler brought up between the Bucks and Blazers prior to this trade?

(18:35) There's been a Seattle Mariners meltdown in the Pacific Northwest as the Houston Astros won two out of three this week, which has them 1.5 games ahead in the AL wild card race. Has this team run out of gas? How big is tonight's game vs. division leading Texas? The Cubs have also been on the collapse as they lost two excruciating games in Atlanta with the Marlins nipping at their heels. I also have to share some sad news as Orioles legend Brooks Robinson passed away on Tuesday at the age of 86.

(32:13) It's been quite a first few weeks for the New York Jets this season. Not only are the fans miffed and frustrated, it's most decorated player (Joe Namath) has come out to share his disgust about the QB Zach Wilson, the coach and front office. In comes, current injured QB Aaron Rodgers, as he tries to keep the team calm and not point fingers. Is it right for Rodgers to come to the rescue? Does he have an idea how the dumb luck of this franchise has been a major part as to why they haven't won in forever? Week 4 has one major five star game (Miami-Buffalo. Can we take the Dolphins seriously if they come up short?) and the rest are just mediocre, with the first London game (Atlanta-Jacksonville) on the schedule Sunday morning. And finally, I'm still alive in my knockout pool. I'll tell you my latest pick to see if I can extend it to Week 5.

(48:21) This week's college football schedule isn't anything like it was last week, but you have USC going to Colorado to see if they can rebound from a blowout loss at Oregon. This is a big matchup for Deion's Buffaloes. Can they respond with a better performance vs. the Trojans? I'll go through a couple of other matchups to check out (Notre Dame-Duke, Kansas-Texas, Georgia-Auburn) as Week 5 is just about here.

(53:14) Lastly, golf will have their last hurrah as the Ryder Cup arrives tomorrow in Rome, Italy. I'll preview what to possibly expect between both the USA team looking to snap a long losing streak in Europe, while Europe tries to get back in the win column after a loss on US soil two years ago.

Although fall is still officially five days away, the first of two podcasts this week officially arrives to your computer, tablet or mobile phone as I delve in on all that happening in sports. On deck:

(3:32) NFL Week 2 is just about in the books. My theme early on in this season are the surprising 2-0 teams and 0-2 teams. I'll get into my usual winners (i.e. Falcons, Seahawks, Giants) and losers (i.e. Broncos, Chargers) of the week, go through yesterday's docket as I review all that took place in the league.

(27:45) With a lot of bluster, bulletin board material leading up to a game that was "personal" for Coach Prime, Deion Sanders, they had to eke out a hard fought win at home vs. in state rivals Colorado State. They lost a key player (i.e. Travis Hunter) and have two tough conference games upcoming (i.e. Oregon & USC). Alabama out of the top 10? That's correct as they're currently #13 in the nation. Tyler Buchner doesn't seem to be the answer at QB. What does Nick Saban do at this point?

(34:10) We're down to the final two weeks of the MLB regular season. There are still division and wild card spots to be secured. The Orioles bounced back in their four game series with the Rays nicely. After losing the first two games, they salvaged the back two and have a couple game lead in the AL East. The AL West is hotly contested between the Astros, Mariners and Rangers, with the latter two in a rock fight for wild card spots against the Blue Jays. Which says a ton about the NL wild card, because the Diamondbacks have catapulted to the second wild card team after a sweep over the Cubs who have fallen from the playoff mix. The Marlins continue to scrap and claw after a sweep over the Braves at home as they currently have the final seed in the NL. Will the Cubs, Reds and even Giants make a last second push? I'll break down all of the schedule for the remaining teams jockeying for position to set themselves up for the Hunt For Red October. I'll also discuss the news of Angels Shohei Ohtani cleaning out his locker as he's shut down for the rest of the year (with two weeks to go????) And the Red Sox fire VP of baseball operations, Chaim Bloom after three plus years in Boston. Was this expected or warranted?

(50:31) A strange development took place in Columbus over the past few days. With NHL training camps open, Blue Jackets coach Mike Babcock removed himself as rumors came out about him invading privacy of his players, as it was reported, he grilled them over photos in their cell phones and alleged told them to AirPlay them for all to see on the screen during team meetings. Have you heard of anything as peculiar as this?

September is moving fast. Summer is officially starting to make its way out, but ushering its way in is the latest fast paced, informative podcast as I cover all that's going on in sports. On deck:

(3:00) All it took was four offensive plays for the new quarterback of the New York Jets, Aaron Rodgers to go down for the season with a torn Achilles. What impact does this have toward the team, the backup QB Zach Wilson, the schedule and the league on a whole as they try to recover from this devastating injury. I'll take a look at who needs to rebound from bad Week 1 losses as Week 2 is here. A Monday night doubleheader forthcoming? This is the first of a few on the docket this year. Why I'm not a fan of the double dose of football, especially happening multiple times throughout the season?

(30:13) It's a super weak Saturday on the schedule for college football, but next Saturday's slate of games are more intriguing.

(32:14) We're down to the final dozen and a half games of the MLB season. The Rangers suffer a huge blow as Max Scherzer is done for the regular season with a triceps injury, with the postseason in doubt. The race for the AL West is wild and wooly between the Astros, Mariners and Rangers. Will all three qualify for the playoffs? The Mets finally get their man to run the baseball operations as former Brewer exec David Stearns, a Flushing native, will man the ship over the next few years. How much work does he have in front of him? There's a huge series in the AL East as Tampa Bay will visit Baltimore for four games to potentially decide who'll be division champs.

(42:33) The NBA is cracking down on teams and players when it comes to load management as they have a tier of fines for those who sit out players that aren't hampered with a significant injury. Why this is a boon for the Association and I'll make a comparison to players/teams of the past who would scoff at the notion of taking games off?

It's been a wild past few days in the sports universe and here to share all of my thoughts, feelings and opinions on all of the matters at hand with the latest podcast episode. On deck:

(2:43) The Seattle Kraken have made a statement to show that they not only belong in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but they're on the verge of pulling off a huge upset in beating the defending Cup Champion, Colorado Avalanche. Can they pull it off at home in Game 6? The Maple Leafs are one game away from finally getting over the hump and winning a first round series. Why the longer the series goes it doesn't favor them? Most of the series are at 3-2, including the Islanders who saved their season with a Game 5 win in Carolina. Will they push this to a 7th game? I'll have the entire first round update as we're in the homestretch to the end of Round 1.

(18:29) The NBA has made a fool out of yours truly as these first round series has picked up some steam as three of the remaining series have some intrigue and drama. First, the Suns beat the Clippers handily in five games. It's not until after the Clippers were ousted that we find out that Kawhi Leonard suffered a torn meniscus. Why wait until the conclusion of the series to apprise us? The Heat become the sixth #8 seed to upset the top seed in the conference as Jimmy Butler willed his team to two improbable wins in Games 4 & 5. Why Butler has the biggest heart in all of the NBA? And there's lots to answer in Milwaukee as coach Mike Budenholzer has lots of explaining to do with some awful coaching in key spots as they're home for the spring. I'll discuss the Knicks blitzing the Cavaliers in 5 as we get set for a Knicks-Heat second round matchup. Will it be anything close to what we saw in the 90's between these two franchises? I'll also get into the Hawks-Celtics series and how the pressure is on the C's? Why Golden State is in the drivers seat with a tough road win in Sacramento? And the Lakers are going back to Cali to see if they can close out the Grizzlies in Game 6. Plus, Ime Udoka has found a new home as he's the new coach of the Houston Rockets.

(46:08) I briefly stress over the Mets losing the first two of three at home against the Washington Nationals before delving into the NFL. Aaron Rodgers is finally a New York Jet. Do the cons outweigh the pros now that he's officially in green and white? The NFL Draft kicks off tonight as Round 1 will take place in Kansas City. Where will the top quarterbacks fall as football fans will have their fill over the next few days to see who their favorite team will draft.

(1:01:42) I cap off the pod with some quick notes on baseball regarding the Pirates, Max Scherzer's suspension and the Braves visiting New York to play the Mets over the weekend.

My sports stove has plenty of cooking as we prep for the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend. I'll dish out plenty of courses as there's a lot to go around on this episode. On deck:

(3:08) It was a wild and unpredictable NFL Week 11 as we saw some surprising winners (i.e. Tennessee) a last second bailout for (i.e. Philadelphia) as well as some mind-numbing losers (i.e. NY Jets) What happened to their offense? And their special teams in the final seconds against New England? In the postgame press conference, what was QB Zach Wilson thinking that made his teammates frustrated with him? How will coach Robert Saleh handle this? Could this potentially be a season defining scenario for a Jet team trying to find its way in a long season? Then there are the Giants with an inexcusable performance at home vs. Detroit. Even the Vikings were man-handled in shocking fashion by the Cowboys at home. I'll wrap up what took place in the league with a look to the Thursday Thanksgiving Day games on the schedule.

(34:54) Tennessee suffered not only losing their QB (Hendon Hooker) for the season, but their playoff hopes as they were destroyed at South Carolina. With both Michigan & TCU squeaking out last second victories, the only team in the mix for the playoff outside of Georgia, Ohio St. and Michigan would be USC after disposing of UCLA. How will this all take into shape? And is LSU a team on the fringe of making the Final Four?

(42:00) There have been a number of key injuries that have taken place in the Association over the past week (i.e. Ja Morant, Zion Williamson, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, to name a few) which we'll need to keep an eye on. Giannis Antetekoumpo had an issue with a ladder in Philadelphia? Is this news? Ehhhh, but I'll explain. Don't look now, but Ben Simmons is starting to heat up as he had his best game as a Net yesterday vs. Memphis. Next up: a date in Philadelphia as he'll face his former team for the first time since the trade last year.

(52:12) The NHL has been status quo for the past couple of weeks. The Bruins home start has been historic. The Devils have won 12 in a row. Besides Alexander Ovechkin's chase for 800 goals and beyond. Plus, Matt Tkachuk playing against his former team (Calgary. With the same for former Panthers forward, Jonathan Huberdeau), things on ice have been the same for the most part. Unless you live in the tri-state area and have a chance to see MVP, Connor McDavid as his Oilers will be in NY throughout the Thanksgiving week.

(55:25) MLB's Hot Stove has cooled a bit, although the Mets have reached out to discuss the services of AL Cy Young Justin Verlander. What about Jacob deGrom? Why I'm not in favor of Verlander coming to Queens? Are the Mariners interested in Yankee INF Gleyber Torres? Also, what's the latest with Aaron Judge returning to the Yanks? Is La La Land (i.e. the Dodgers) back on the Judge bandwagon to court the AL MVP?

(59:39) The World Cup has commenced. Even after my unfulfilling preview on Thursday, USA has their first game against Wales today. How big is this game for the Americans as England looms in their next matchup on Friday?

Zooming through the sports landscape as I deliver (Episode 98) and all that happened this past week. Here’s what I got for you.

A lay of the NFL land through Week 10 as I discuss the Saints laying a huge egg at home, to the Falcons, no less. The Chiefs in Patrick Mahomes’s return lose to the Titans on the road. The GM Meetings begin in Arizona today as the MLB Hot Stove will start to heat up. Could this be another slow off-season for the over 130 free agents to be making their way to new destinations?

Ushering in November with some sizzling analysis (Episode 97) as I take you through the sports universe. Here’s what I got for you.

The disasters in New York (Jets) and Cleveland as both Adam Gase and Freddie Kitchens are feeling the heat in their first season as head coach. The Niners are the last undefeated team standing in the NFL. I’ll discuss how far they can take their streak, plus go around the league to chime about the Patriots first loss and other storylines throughout Week 9.

The Washington Nationals won their first World Series in historic fashion by winning all four games on the road. I’ll put a nice ribbon on their magic carpet ride, as well as, what the Astros did wrong, particularly in Game 7. I’ll also get into some of the top free agents on the market this off-season. And, of course, my insight on the new Met manager, Carlos Beltran, that you don’t want to miss.

I’ll share some thoughts on the NBA where there was a high scoring affair between the Rockets vs. Wizards, Stephen Curry’s broken hand and Joel Embiid is up to his stupid tactics yet again.

Autumn has arrived! With that, a new episode (#92) that's chock full of sports talk. On deck:

We’re down to the final week of the baseball season. I’ll recap what’s happening in both the AL/NL Wild Card races. Will there be a play in game for CLE/TB? What happened to the Cubs? Mets still alive…barely. Also, has Mickey Callaway saved his job for 2020? What about expectations for next year regarding the Amazins? Then there are the Yankees, as they  have clinched their first division in seven years. Upon their celebration, word came down that a key contributor will not be on the team come October. I'll discuss what affect that may have on the team and the roster as they complete the final week of the regular season. I’ll add in a CC Sabathia for the Hall of Fame debate in there as well.

NFL Week 3 was so-so, but there are a couple of storylines to sink your teeth into.  The Daniel Jones era is off to a resounding start with the Giants. How I compare this first game to, dare I say, Michael Jordan’s NCAA Championship win at North Carolina. I’ll explore the career of Eli Manning and whether or not he’s destined for Canton, OH at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I’ll discuss the big trade in Pittsburgh as Minkah Fitzpatrick comes north as a #1 pick for next year goes south to Miami. The 3-0 teams vs. the 0-3 teams. As well as, are NFL players adopting the 'NBA player empowerment' mentality as a way to get their demands met?

Speaking of the NBA, I’ll share my thoughts on the latest measures to stop tampering from running rampant throughout the league moving forward. Plus, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

I'm in a feisty, awful sports mood, so hide the women and children, because Episode 90 promises to be full of smoke and fire. On deck:

In fourteen NFL cities this morning, either they're setting up the Super Bowl parade route or ready to draft for the number one pick. But there are two excpetions. I'll explain. I'll also go around the league and assess the damage up in Foxborough as the Steelers no showed vs. the Patriots.

The Mets have put their postseason hopes in the trash after a brutal loss in Washington and losing two out of three vs. Philadelphia. Mickey Callaway may have seen his managerial position go out the window with some very questionable moves this week. I have plenty of ammunition on this and I'll also recap the latest in the AL & NL Wild Card races.

Rafael Nadal has inched closer in his quest to catch Roger Federer for most Mens' Grand Slam titles. Serena Williams has now lost back to back Wimbledon and US Open Finals as she's stuck on 23 Grand Slam victories. Hear my take on both legendary figures and what may lie ahead in 2020 now that the Tennis Slams are done for the year.

We’re on the verge of saying goodbye to an action packed sports month, but there’s still plenty to get into on this weeks edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. Both the NBA & NHL have moved on to the Conference Semi-finals. We’ll start off with the NBA as the juicy second round match-ups (in particular, Houston-Golden State) is off to a wild start. I’ll get into the officiating in Game 1, what this could mean for the rest of series and who’ll come out on top and advance to the Conference Finals. I’ll get into the Celtics dominating GM 1 in Milwaukee, the Raptors win over the 76ers and the Nuggets prevailing over the Spurs as they prepare to face the Trail Blazers in Round 2. On the ice, the Islanders have dug themselves an 0-2 hole and now have to go on the road to play the Hurricanes and get back in this series. I’ll explain why this series is far from over, despite having the odds against them, as well as, surveying the rest of the Stanley Cup Playoff landscape with the other three series taking place.. The 2019 NFL Draft is officially in the books. I’ll discuss the Giants surprise first of three first round picks, all of the comings and goings of another wild weekend in Nashville and the latest surrounding Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill. The Yankees continue their hot streak out West as they’ve won six of seven in Anaheim and San Francisco. Should the Yankee fan expect this team to play stellar ball without their key guys in the lineup? I’ll have the answer to that, plus, what’s going on with Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard as the Mets pitching staff has underperformed here in the first month of the season. The best sports month of the year never disappoints as I’ll zip through the sports landscape in fast and furious fashion on this edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The Brooklyn Nets have hung tough but have fallen short against the heavily favored Philadelphia 76ers. I’ll revisit their last three games, do they have a shot at bringing this series back to Brooklyn? And I must get into the antics of a one, Joel Embiid, whose postgame comments and in game behavior is starting to wear on me. This is one segment you won’t want to miss out on as I believe this will catch up to him in the long run. I’ll take a look back on how the Celtics had a rough go of it for a four game sweep vs. the Indiana Pacers and breeze through the rest of the NBA playoff brackets as there’s very little drama surrounding the first round of the tournament. The Islanders have secured their first four game sweep of a playoff series since they’ve won the Stanley Cup back in 1983. Up next, is either Washington or Carolina as they Capitals are currently up 3-2 in their series. Will the long layoff help or hurt the Islanders in the second round? I’ll have that, plus a more drama filled postseason on the ice than the hardwood as we have two, and a potential three, Game 7’s on the horizon. The NFL Draft is days away. Both the Jets and Giants have prominent roles as they respectively have the 3rd and 6th picks overall. What will they do? What should they do? I’ll deliver my take on who they should draft as we inch closer to the first round on Thursday. I’ll also share a bit on the upcoming NFL schedules of the locals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cleveland Browns and their FOUR primetime games and much more. The Yankees have suffered another key injury, this time to their best player, Aaron Judge, but the beat goes on as they win five of their last six at home as they embark on a West Coast trip. Will they continue to tread water? Fall deeper in the AL East standings? As for the Mets, they limp home losing four of five and six of ten on their ten game road trip. What are biggest problem for the Amazins’ early season failures? You’ll be surprised at who are some of the culprits as to the Mets stumbling over the past week. Are there reinforcements coming? I have a full smorgasbord of sports to whet your appetite on this weeks edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. We’re now down to two. The Final Four was overcome with controversy as the Auburn Tigers was thisclose to making their first trip to the Championship Game. Was it a foul? Should have it been called? I’ll be sure to delve into those final 0.6 seconds vs. Virginia which changed the trajectory of the Final Four, Texas Tech’s mild upset over Michigan State and a preview of what lies ahead for tonights’ winner take all matchup. The NBA is about to embark on another postseason, but there are still a couple of games to be played. The Brooklyn Nets have punched their ticket to the playoffs, but their seed isn’t set in stone. I’ll get into both races in the East and West as the bottom of the playoff seedings in each conference have yet to be determined. On the other hand, the NHL playoffs are set. The Islanders will host the first round since 1984 against the battle tested Penguins. What are their chances to move onto the next round? Who is the biggest X-factor of this series? It may not be who you think, so you’ll have to listen to find out. I’ll also reveal the main headlines leading the chase for Lord Stanley’s Cup, with the Tampa Bay Lightning at the forefront of being one of the all time great teams with a potential championship in their sight. There’s some baseball to talk about. Not just the week that was for the Mets and Yankees, but the Orioles Chris Davis’s plight, the cold Cubs & Red Sox and the white hot Mariners, Dodgers and Mike Trout’s torrid HR streak.
