A new day. A new week. A new month. A new season on the horizon. An anniversary of sorts. And another milestone to check off. It’s going to be that type of week for the podcast as I uncover all of what’s happening in sports and then some. On deck:

(6:29) I have some housekeeping to share as the 2025 NFL Preview will be on my Wednesday Livestream on YouTube (12pm ET) An anniversary of sorts (7.5 years and still going) with another milestone forthcoming (600th episode on Thursday) Please subscribe on my YouTube channel (at JAYREELZ) for plenty of content in the coming days, weeks, months, etc.

(9:05) Baseball’s playoff chase is looking anything but as September rolls in with the same old song and dance that I’ve been preaching for weeks. I’ll see if there’s absolutely anything that I can touch on that could change the landscape over the next week or so

(21:36) College football got off to a tremendous start in its first week, but not if you’re Arch Manning at Texas, Alabama, Cade Klubnik at Clemson or Notre Dame.

(35:36) I’ll unpack the cold, hard truths for both the Cowboys and Packers in the aftermath of the Micah Parsons trade to Green Bay. But the Cowboys did sign DB DeRon Bland to an extension.

(45:43) Week two of the US Open gets underway with an excellent match between Naomi Osaka-Coco Gauff. How will both the men’s & women’s side play out over the next seven days? CORRECTION: I referred to Coco Gauff’s match with Donna Vekic as a GOLF match at the end of this segment. Obviously, a terrible error on my part. My apologies for the slip up.

(55:50) Some brief talk about the Lynx clinching home court of the WNBA playoffs and how will the Liberty perform if their top guns are back, healthy and at full strength?

And MUCH MORE in between.

With the holiday weekend upon us, the final podcast of August promises to keep you on top of all that’s happening in the sports universe. On deck:

(6:28) Are the Mets on the verge of chasing the Phillies in the NL East after a three game sweep at Citi Field? It’s beginning to look like a boring September when it comes to playoff races, as it could be a quiet last month of the baseball season.

(25:56) Terry McLaurin gets the deal he’s been searching down in DC with the Commanders. Same for Trey Hendrickson in Cincinnati. Will the same be said for Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons before the season opener next Thursday?

(30:34) College football is back! The schedule begins in earnest tonight, but all eyes are on Columbus as the Texas Longhorns will face Ohio State on Saturday. Why this game is important for QB Arch Manning to beat the defending champs?

(40:27) Were the Knicks this close to hiring Dawn Staley as their head coach? The South Carolina coach blames herself as she explains why she’s not at the helm in New York.

(46:54) Don’t look now, but the Las Vegas Aces are showing why they are a team to be reckoned with come playoff time in the WNBA?

(51:39) All has been mostly quiet at the US Open this week, despite an early exit by a top player on the women’s side.

And MUCH MORE in between.

Counting down the days until the unofficial ending of summer, but a new beginning is here as the first of two podcasts this week have arrived. On deck:

(6:23) Both World Series representatives (Yankees, Dodgers) from last year avoid sweeps, the Phillies lose their ace (Zack Wheeler) for the remainder of the year. Will there be any drama over the course of the final five weeks of 2025? Plus, all of the latest that MLB has to offer as we approach the final month of the season.

(34:11) NFL now has its sights set on the regular season. First up, tomorrow’s rosters need to be set. There’s been some player movement already as I’ll update on what’s gone on. Also, college football is here as we get set to open up the new season this coming weekend, despite it officially beginning last weekend.

(40:50) The US Open has already begun at Flushing Meadows, with a surprising upset right out of the gate. I’ll preview what could take place over the next two weeks as the last major of 2025 is here.

(52:46) Napheesa Collier is back for the Minnesota Lynx as they’re looking as the team to beat in the WNBA.

(54:48) A key member of the Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers will miss the start of the season as NHL training camps commence in a few weeks.

(56:49) Lastly, some news in golf as Tommy Fleetwood is your FedEx Champion. Is it a big deal?

Here to deliver another episode of sports talk unlike any other, detailing all that’s happened and what will happen. On deck:

(6:20) Are the Yankees on the verge of catching the Blue Jays in the AL East? They seem to have erased the doldrums of the past two months as they’ve been bashing and mashing the baseball as of late. The Red Sox come to The Bronx for four huge games starting tonight. Also, commissioner Rob Manfred dropped hints at possible realignment in the years to come. Is that a good thing? Or bad?

(34:05) Is this the end of former first round pick Anthony Richardson’s tenure in Indianapolis? I’m going to speak the cold, hard truth about his past, present and future in the NFL.

(40:27) Don’t look now, but college football is back. Well, sort of, as the schedule is introduced this weekend.

(43:22) A not so surprising retirement for a former #1 overall pick and a coach gets an extension are the highlights in the NBA.

(46:17) Have the Liberty saved face if they matchup with the Lynx in the Finals again, after salvaging their season series on Tuesday night after losing the first three?

(50:34) Jake Paul has announced that he will fight Gervonta Davis on November 14th. Will this be a boxing match? Or another sideshow of an event?

And MUCH MORE in between.

Kicking off the unofficial beginning of summer as we remember those who fought for our freedom in this country. Thanks to the servicemen and women who’ve done so. And thank you for being a part of this latest podcast with all that’s happening in sports. On deck:

(6:57) Both the Knicks and Timberwolves get back in their respective conference finals. Can they get the equalizer to ensure that their series will go at least six games? I’ll also add in that Caitlin Clark will be out of the lineup for the Indiana Fever for two weeks with a quad strain. Who knows if this is a blip in her season? Or could this be re-aggravated sometime down the road?

(25:48) Are the Oilers and Panthers on a collision course for another Stanley Cup Final? With Edmonton up 2-1 and Florida looking for a sweep, it’s certainly looking that way.

(36:56) Two months of the baseball season is in the books. Where do we stand at the first main juncture of a long, marathon of 162 games? The Mets have a good weekend vs. the Dodgers and win their first series in almost two weeks.

(54:18) College football revises the playoff seedings from conference championship byes to normal seeding.

(57:01) Alex Palou is your Indianapolis 500 winner. The first Spanish driver to win at the Indianapolis Speedway.

(59:30) Another Grand Slam is here, this time in tennis as the French Open is underway. I’ll preview what may lie ahead at Roland Garros over the next two weeks.

The sun is starting to set on the first month of the year. ALREADY? But not without yours truly getting into every nook and cranny on what is happening in the sports universe as the latest podcast has arrived! On deck:

(6:48) We’re down to the final three games of the NFL season. Two will be played on Sunday as Championship Sunday is on the horizon. I’ll uncover the big storylines (Chiefs chasing history. Is it Josh Allen’s time? Will the Commanders magic carpet ride lead them to New Orleans? Can Philadelphia get back to the Super Bowl?) preview both games and predict who’ll face one another down in the Big Easy for Super Bowl LIX. I’ll get into the coaching hires that have taken place (Ben Johnson to Chicago and Aaron Glenn to the Jets) Why the Glenn hire was a good one, but it comes with a caveat? The Jaguars fired their GM Trent Baalke in light of Buccaneers OC Liam Coen passing on their head coaching position. Where do they go from here?

(40:27) Ohio State rebounds from a brutal home loss to Michigan to run the table and win a National Championship over Notre Dame Monday night. Why they end up having the last laugh?

(45:47) College basketball will slowly but surely creep into our sports consciousness in the weeks to come, but I’ll talk about what’s happening in the Association. Not much to unfurl, but we could be in the process of Jimmy Butler finally getting traded from Miami. I’ll detail a huge haul by the Phoenix Suns which could precipitate a deal before the deadline on February 6th. The Dallas Mavericks suffer another key injury (Dereck Lively) to their depleted roster. And Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (aka SGA) is on the fast track to an MVP with a career high 54 points recorded last night in a win vs. Utah. I’ll see what else has transpired throughout the NBA as we’re past the halfway point of the season.

(56:41) The NHL has been rather quiet. Other than the league’s best player (Connor McDavid) being suspended for three games due to his actions in a game vs. Vancouver. And the Rangers are unbeaten in the last nine games as they try to make up ground in the Metropolitan Division.

(1:00:24) As for baseball, other than a few fringe signings (Tim Anderson to the Angels. Paul Sewald to Cleveland) the baseball writers have inducted Ichiro Suzuki, CC Sabathia and Billy Wagner to the Hall of Fame. Are they all worthy of enshrinement?

(1:07:08) We’re heading into the final few days of the Australian Open. Novak Djokovic is seeking his 25th Grand Slam singles title. He beat Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals (I have an interesting observation on Alcaraz) but will he get to a final and possibly beat Jannik Sinner. On the women’s side, Aryna Sabalenka is looking for a three peat as she’s reached the final. She’ll face Madison Keys, who upset Iga Swiatek in the semis. Can she pull off another major upset?

It’s a holiday Monday, honoring the late, great Dr. Martin Luther King for all he stood for. On a MUCH lesser scale, you know what I stand for when it comes to anything and everything happening in between the white lines and beyond as the latest podcast is here! On deck:

(6:43) We’re down to the final four in the NFL. With just three more games to go in this season, it was a good, not great Divisional Round. I’ll recap the big headlines of the past couple of days, including the Lions disappointing ending, the Commanders upside and magic. Lamar Jackson & co. didn’t deliver in Buffalo. The Eagles were fortunate to get out with a win despite Saquon’s monster game. And the Chiefs keep on Chiefing as they’re in another AFC Championship Game. I’ll break it all down and share my thoughts on the two games next Sunday leading up to Super Bowl LIX.

(33:54) Is there a college football championship game tonight? It seems like an afterthought after a ten day layoff from the semifinal games, but I’ll preview some of the key points for Notre Dame-Ohio State as a champion will be crowned this evening.

(39:29) The Association is front and center on this MLK Day. The only juicy storyline over the past few days is the return of Jimmy Butler in Miami. How will this play out? Is there a trade on the horizon? I’ll see what else is happening as the league is at or just about past the halfway point of their season.

(48:03) On the ice, there was an achievement that the NHL has never seen. Penguins goalie Alex Nedeljkovic is the first player in league history to score a goal and assist in the same game at the position. There’s a possible suspension for one of the best players in the sport (Oilers Connor McDavid) And Alex Ovechkin adds another goal to inch closer to Wayne Gretzky all time, but there could be another added layer to this magical season as we get to mid April.

(54:47) Are the Dodgers World Series Champions for 2025 in January? It’s sure looking that way with the signings of Roki Sasaki and lefty bullpen arm Tanner Scott as they’re locked and loaded to defend their title. I have to add the sad news of both Bob Uecker and Jeff Torborg who passed away over the last few days at the ages of 90 & 83 respectively.

(1:01:57) What is going on down under at the Australian Open? Between the players, fans and media, it’s been a wild few days regarding Novak Djokovic and the local media. Danielle Collins getting heckled by the fans and returning barbs with them in losing her match to Madison Keys. A big upset as Daniil Medvedev is ousted from the tournament. A crazy past few days as we turn the corner to the second week of the first Grand Slam of the year. NOTE: The Blue Jays sign Anthony Santander in some breaking news at the time. A five year, $90 million dollar deal as another free agent is off the market.

Getting into a groove as we approach the middle of January, catching up and presenting to you all of what’s going on in the sports world as the latest podcast comes your way. On deck:

(6:27) I have to start off by railing against the NFL Wild Card Weekend being underwhelming and rather lame honestly. It was salvaged in the nightcap down in Tampa as rookie QB Jayden Daniels led the Commanders to their franchise’s first playoff victory in 19 years, beating the Buccaneers 23-20. Did this cement the organization’s odor of the regime of Daniel Snyder years ago? I’ll go through the rest of the schedule where the Texans, Eagles, Ravens and Bills coasted to victory. I’ll get on both Justin Herbert and Jordan Love as far as their performances this weekend. No surprise as Mike Vrabel is your new coach of the New England Patriots. The nightmare continues in Cleveland as Deshaun Watson re-injures his Achilles and is likely done for 2025. Will they pivot and draft a QB, knowing that they still have to fork over $94 million to Watson?

(42:10) The National Championship is set for college football as Penn State and Texas will have long winters, springs and into summer after suffering brutal defeats at the hands of Notre Dame and Ohio State, respectively. I’ll dissect both games, see what went wrong for the Nittany Lions and Longhorns and briefly look ahead to the title game next Monday night. There was some sad news as former Colorado Buffalo coach, Bill McCartney died at the age of 84.

(52:48) Not much is happening in the Association as I’ll touch on the Cavaliers getting their 12 game winning streak snapped. Zion Williamson’s tardiness leads to a suspension. Will he ever grow up? And a historic achievement by Nikola Jokic and Russell Westbrook, recording triple doubles in the same game for the second time this year. I will check to see what else is going on as teams are approaching the midway point of the season.

(59:59) Same for the NHL as I’ll keep an eye on Alex Ovechkin’s pursuit on Wayne Gretzky’s record, the Bruins snap a six game skid in unconventional fashion and keep you abreast of what’s happening on the ice over the past few days.

(1:04:55) Baseball is about a month away from pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training. What’s the latest regarding the Mets signing Pete Alonso and reports of a contract in place?

(1:09:00) We already have an upset of a top men’s player down under at the Australian Open as #11 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas has been ousted by 20 year old Alex Michelsen. Besides that, Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek has advanced as they’re just getting started in the first Grand Slam of 2025.

The weather outside may be chilly, but I’ll have your earbuds, speakers or headphones hot as I’ve got lots to say with what the sports world has to offer with the latest podcast out now! On deck:

(6:49) Football fans! The NFL playoffs are just about here! I’ll preview all of what Wild Card Weekend will have to offer, with plenty of huge storylines and go through all of the games with analysis and predictions to get you ready for six games over three days. Is Lamar Jackson & Josh Allen under the most pressure? What about Mike Tomlin? The health of Jalen Hurts? The psyche on the Vikings? All of those will be answered and an update on the latest head coach firings in the sport.

(40:25) The college football playoff resumes over the next couple of nights. Similar to the NFL, I’ll break down the key points of both games (Notre Dame-Penn St. and Ohio St.-Texas) and ask the bigger question, is this Ohio State’s title to lose? Also, what is the National Championship game that the world wants to see?

(51:54) Are you sold on the Cleveland Cavaliers being an NBA title contender? They snapped the 15 game winning streak of the OKC Thunder last night and now are in the middle of an eleven game win streak. Do you need to see more? I’ll keep you posted on some big returns (I.e. Zion Williamson and Paolo Banchero) and one big injury (Kyrie Irving) and what else is happening on the hard court.

(1:02:02)The NHL will have two outdoor games scheduled for next January and February, both of those contests…in Florida? I’ll dissect the Rangers visiting Miami to play in loanDepot Park (aka Marlins Park) and the Lightning hosting the Bruins in Raymond James Stadium (the Buccaneers home stadium) as they were granted dates to be played under sunshine and palm trees? I’ll check the schedule over the weekend and keep you abreast of what’s going on throughout the league.

(1:11:11) Baseball is rather quiet with just a few transactions to discuss, that don’t include Pete Alonso, Alex Bregman, Anthony Santander, Tanner Scott, etc. There was a sad passing as former Orioles pitcher Brian Matusz died at the age of 37.

(1:13:19) Tennis is back in our consciousness as the first Grand Slam tournament of the year (the Australian Open) is just about here. Will Carlos Alcaraz complete his career slam? Can Jannik Sinner go back to back Aussie titles? What about Aryna Sabalenka going for a three peat down under? Is Iga Swiatek ready to claim her status of #1 woman in the world? You’ll get my thoughts on all of the above as we usher in another sport to the podcast over the next two weeks.

The holiday festivities are well behind us. The New Year is in full swing. It’s time to get to work as a big 2025 lies ahead for yours truly, delivering what I do best. Serving up unedited, unapologetic and entertaining sports talk as the latest podcast is here. On deck:

(6:31) The NFL mercifully ended yesterday as it was a regular season to forget. I’ll explain the reasons why in detail on how underwhelming the past 18 weeks have been. I’ll recap the lack of drama over the past two days as there weren’t any interesting developments or teams that snuck into the playoffs. Now, wild card weekend is forthcoming. I’ll share the schedule for the upcoming six games, but will spare the storylines and previews until Thursday’s podcast. Tyreek Hill expressed his frustration after not making the playoffs for the first time in his career, mentioning how he's "out" of Miami. Is a move away from South Beach forthcoming? You’ve already seen a couple of coaches fired (Jarod Mayo in New England, Doug Pederson in Jacksonville.) Are there more to come? What about the state of the Giants?

(30:30) Notre Dame flexed their muscles and beat Georgia to punch their ticket to the semifinals in the college football playoffs. I’ll have a preview and uncover the storylines of the two games on the next podcast as they’ll resume on Thursday night between Notre Dame-Penn State and Friday where Ohio State-Texas will square off. There were a couple of noted injuries that took place, including the Indiana QB Kurtis Roarke, playing the whole year on a torn ACL? And sad news as the father of Georgia coach Kirby Smart, dies from complications of hip surgery after taking a fall on New Year’s Eve at the age of 76.

(37:49) The Jimmy Butler saga unfurled over the weekend as the disgruntled player gets his wish, wanting to be traded and away from the Miami Heat. A deal will be in the works at some point, but it’s not as easy as it seems. Plus, how much does Butler have left? As for on the court, you have a clash of the titans on Wednesday, when the top two teams in each conference will square off in Cleveland as OKC will come to town. Which team do I trust more in the long run? I’ll see what else is happening throughout the Association (WAIT! The return of Kawhi Leonard?) in this first week of the new year.

(58:36) It’s been a quiet week on the ice, but Alexander Ovechkin has been making noise as he scored two goals since we last met. He is now 23 goals away from being the all time goal scoring leader in NHL history. Will he ever slow down? I’ll check on what else is going on as there’ve been a handful of teams that have reached or surpassed the halfway point of the season.

(1:02:56) Don’t look now, MLB fans. Pitchers and catchers report in six weeks. There’s still a couple of name free agents out there (Pete Alonso & Alex Bregman, among others) but there were only minor transactions that took place. Veteran starting pitcher, Charlie Morton signs with the Orioles. INF Cavan Biggio signs a minor league deal with the Royals. That’s been the extent of it as of this moment.

The ball has dropped, the champagne has been sipped. 2025 is here. A new year sets off an explosive podcast as I commence another year of sports talk. On deck:

(6:35) Sending well wishes to you and yours for a prosperous, happy and healthy New Year. Which can’t be said if you’re Boise State, Arizona State and Oregon. The three bye teams fail to reach the semifinals in the college football playoff. Boise State played a poor game (their head coach didn’t think so. Seriously?), but give credit to Penn State in thwarting the Heisman Trophy runner up Ashton Jeanty as they upset the Broncos. You had a classic finish to a not so classic game (I’ll explain) as Texas shows grit and toughness to beat Arizona State in 2 OT’s. As Oregon failed to show up vs. a game Ohio State team as they blew the doors off of the Ducks perfect season in the Rose Bowl. We still have another game (Notre Dame-Georgia) that was postponed last night due to the senseless act on the streets of New Orleans the night before. I’ll rehash all that took place as we inch closer to the final four next Thursday and Friday.

(31:20) We’ve reached the final week of the NFL regular season. I’ll unpack the very little drama that we should expect over the weekend when it comes to playoff possibilities for Miami, Cincinnati & Atlanta. I’ll share my thoughts on why Saquon Barkley should’ve started vs. the Giants in pursuit of the all time single season rushing record. And is this the end of Aaron Rodgers’s NFL career as it could possibly be his last game vs. the Dolphins on Sunday? Will the owner bring him back? Should they just blow it up?

(48:10) The hot topics in the Association over the past few days have been LeBron James turning 40, saying he can play 5-7 more years, but won’t. How long will he play? Is he doing this to cement his Laker legacy? Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is your MVP of the league, said T’wolves All-Star guard Anthony Edwards. Is it too early to discuss this? Is there truth to this? What kind of year is defending MVP Nikola Jokic having to this point? I’ll see which teams are hot (Cavs, Knicks, Thunder) and peek at an interesting schedule of games over the weekend.

(59:35) On the ice, the NHL had their Winter Classic on New Year’s Eve, which ended up being a dud. St. Louis easily beats Chicago at Wrigley Field in a 6-2 win. Meanwhile, the Rangers continue to spiral out of control. Not only are they in the midst of a four game losing streak, but they’ll miss their goaltender Igor Shesterkin for at least three games with an upper body injury. Could the head coach be on his way out? I’ll also peruse what else is going on in the standings and schedule over the next three days leading into next week.

It’s almost time to say goodbye to another year, but before we do so, I’ve got one more podcast in my back pocket for all of you to enjoy. Let’s close out this year in grand style as the latest podcast has arrived. On deck:

(6:48) With 2024 winding down, I open with the latest headlines heading into the final week of the NFL season. I’ll uncover the Vikings shocking season behind QB Sam Darnold as they’re in control of their own destiny for the top seed in the NFC, battling the Lions for supremacy in the conference. Who’ll come out with the #7 seed in the AFC between Denver, Miami and Cincinnati? What about the NFC South with Tampa Bay currently ahead of Atlanta, but the Falcons have the tiebreaker if they end up with the same record? Does Saquon Barkley break Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record? What about his former team, the Giants, winning their first home game this year but lose the chance for the #1 pick in next years’ draft? The NFL is gloating about having 65 million people watch at least one minute of the two Christmas Day games on Netflix. You know I have to dump cold water on that. I’ll also send my condolences to the Gumbel family as Greg passed away on Friday at the age of 78 due to cancer.

(33:00) The second round of the college football playoff commences tomorrow night. I’ll get into the top storylines of what to expect, from Boise and Arizona State’s chances to move on after gaining first round byes. Will Ohio State exact revenge from an early season loss to Oregon? Can Penn State continue their magical run? How about the Fighting vs. Georgia? I’ll have every bit of what the quarterfinals will look like and play out over the next couple of days.

(50:03) Is the NBA becoming the WWE? There were a couple of brawls over the weekend with suspension handed down, which begs the question, is physical play in the Association a necessity? A trade was made between the Lakers and Nets as D’Angelo Russell heads back to Brooklyn where Dorian Finney-Smith moves west. The Sacramento Kings canned coach Mike Brown. Was it warranted? Jimmy Butler will stay put in Miami as per president Pat Riley, but what’s with this competitive reconditioning phrase because of Butler’s absence from the lineup. Is this the new load management? I’ll check around the league for the latest as both OKC and Cleveland continue their torrid streaks in the West & East.

(1:07:26) Anyone psyched for the NHL Winter Classic? It’s on January 1st, correct? It is not and who is playing in the game? The league has dropped the puck on not truly showcasing its signature game as it’ll be played on New Year’s Eve in Chicago (Wrigley Field) where the Blackhawks will play against the Blues. How about Alexander Ovechkin? He returns from a fractured leg where he scores two goals in two games, is 25 goals away from Wayne Gretzky’s all time scoring record. Is this man bionic at the age of 39? I’ll see what else is happening around the ice as the New Year is on the horizon.

(1:17:38) Another big MLB free agent is off the books as pitcher Corbin Burnes signs with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Did his former team, the Orioles, put up an offer? Actually what is going on in Baltimore as they haven’t added anyone of note this offseason to compete with the Yankees and Red Sox in their division. Also, what’s the latest with Pete Alonso? Is that Met offer of 3 years for $90 million legit? Gleyber Torres signs with the Tigers for one year. And Teoscar Hernandez re-ups with the Dodgers on a three year deal.

(1:25:28) I want to shout out YOU, the followers, subscribers and fans of the podcast. Thank YOU for all of your support. Thank you of banging with me for another year, even if it’s your first time, keep coming back as I have LOTS on the board for 2025 that I can’t wait to share. Keep your eyes peeled as we go on this journey together! Again, thank you twice, more than once.

Christmas may be over, but the Grinch (yours truly) will certainly put plenty of coal in your stocking as this is a rather spicy podcast detailing all that’s transpired in the sports world. On deck:

(6:45) I have to express my displeasure of the NFL ‘cannibalizing’ themselves with the oversaturating of the sport with broadcasts on a million platforms. Games played on multiple days of the week, jamming down these contests down our throats. When is enough, enough? Week 17 is off to a rather brutal start. Other than Beyonce’s halftime performance, the NFL games yesterday were unwatchable! There are questions emanating from all four contestants. Who’s beating the Chiefs? Are the Steelers shrinking to where they won’t be long for the postseason? Is this the Ravens/Lamar Jackson’s year? Can you take the Houston Texans seriously? I’ll go through the rest of the weeks schedule. I’ll make a mention of two big losses in college football regarding personnel who will not play in the Notre Dame-Georgia Sugar Bowl matchup on Wednesday night. Also, former Eagles LB Bill Bergey passed away at the age of 79. CORRECTION: At the 11:00 minute mark, I mentioned Chicago is fighting for a playoff spot. It’s Seattle. My apologies as I got carried away with my commentary throughout the podcast.

(39:00) The NBA had their banner day on Christmas as Victor Wembanyama impresses, Luka Doncic goes down with a calf injury. Are the Sixers out of their early season malaise? What’s going on with the Celtics? The Lakers win a classic as Austin Reaves saves the day with a triple double and game clinching layup. Off the court, Heat guard Jimmy Butler prefers to leave Miami for greener pastures. Where will he possibly end up? And is it possible that Wembanyama could be the face of the NBA down the road?

(50:43) On the ice, the NHL has taken a few days off due to the holiday, which the Rangers have seem to be on an extended one, considering how they’ve played in the last month and change. Is another shakeup in order? The Sabres snap their 13 game losing streak in resounding fashion vs. the Islanders Monday, which segues to a diatribe on my favorite hockey team. Kudos to Sidney Crosby tying Mario Lemieux on the all time assist category in the league’s history.

(58:31) The MLB Hot Stove may cool off here, unless something sparks up over the last week of 2024. With Corbin Burnes, Pete Alonso, Alex Bregman and the like still available, could a transaction take place? If not now, when? I’ll part with thoughts on Walker Buehler signing with the Red Sox and why the Mets did not have any interest? And can they sign lefty reliever Tanner Scott to shore up their bullpen?

On this Christmas Eve eve, I appreciate you stopping by, whether you’re finishing up last minute shopping, wrapping gifts, preparing dinner or just taking a load off your feet, let me inform you of what’s going on in the sports universe with the most recent podcast coming your way. On deck:

(6:53) Gearing up for the home stretch of the NFL season as teams continue to jockey for playoff positioning. One team that could be in danger of not having their starting quarterback is Eagles Jalen Hurts. How long will be out of the lineup? Can they survive without him for any length of time? The AFC North is even at the top with the Steelers & Ravens holding the fort. Will Pittsburgh hang on to win the division? And why it’s important for them to do so? Lamar Jackson had a solid performance on Saturday against his kryptonite in black and gold. Is he bound to win a third MVP? Or is Josh Allen still the favorite? I’ll share a comparison with both as super productive regular season players who haven’t delivered in the postseason. I’ll check on what else is happening in the NFL with the NFC South & West and the entire playoff picture in both conferences.

(37:29) The first ever expanded college football playoff is in the books. Sadly, there was absolutely NOTHING to write home about. I’ll breakdown how Clemson, Indiana, SMU and Tennessee fell way short of not just pulling off upsets, but staying in these games to compete and advance to the semifinals. I’m concerned that we may see the same fate in the next round where Boise State and Arizona State will get a crack against Penn State & Texas, respectively. I’ll keep you abreast on the health of Georgia QB Carson Beck, who’ll likely miss the quarterfinal matchup vs. Notre Dame as we look ahead to New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day to the next round.

(49:49) With the annual Christmas Day extravaganza for the NBA forthcoming, it’s come under some fire as reports of a decline in ratings and interest with the Association has surfaced. I’ll explain why that’s the case and have a quick fix to remedy it. Will it happen? Is it way too late to do so? I’ll peek in to what’s going on throughout the league as the schedule is pretty light because of the upcoming holiday.

(1:02:19) Are the Buffalo Sabres not going to make the playoffs again? They’re in the middle of a 13 game losing streak as of today. When will they snap out of it? Can they get back to being in the middle of the pack in the Eastern Conference? I’ll see what’s the latest in the NHL as they sport will head into a Christmas break after tonight.

(1:06:19) Another passing of a baseball legend as I’ll remember Rickey Henderson who died Friday night at the age of 65. The MLB Hot Stove is working overtime the past few days as there have been several transactions. The Yankees sign Paul Goldschmidt to play first base next year. Was that a good pick up? The Mets finally re-sign one of their own (no, not Pete Alonso) but pitcher Sean Manaea to a three year deal. They did miss out (and to my dismay) on signing Walker Buehler on the cheap. Guardian fans have a lot to be upset with as Josh Naylor gets shipped to Arizona. Why are they operating as a major league club if they can’t re-sign their own players? Plus, other moves by the Phillies, Astros, Rangers and A’s that have made news over the weekend.

The winter solstice is on Saturday, with Christmas not too far behind. I’ll spread a little cheer and some jeers as I’ll start putting some gifts and coal around the tree as I get into all that’s going on in sports as THISSSSS..

(6:49) College football fans have been waiting for this. The first ever twelve team playoff commences tomorrow night. I’ll go through all of the major storylines (i.e. Ryan Day, Quinn Ewers, anyone? NFL swallowing up Saturday afternoon, etc.) preview each of the games, who’s primed for an upset, the best game of the four. Wall to wall coverage of what to possibly expect between the matchups of Indiana-Notre Dame, Clemson-Texas, SMU-Penn State and Tennessee-Ohio State.

(31:55) NFL Week 16 kicks off with a good one tonight with tiebreaking implications as the Broncos-Chargers will go at it. Saturday games are re-introduced to us as Houston-Kansas City and Pittsburgh-Baltimore will headline the day. Sunday and Monday are lacking in comparison. Will Michael Penix Jr. deliver for a Falcon team that’s been reeling? Can the Lions hang onto to that much needed one seed in the NFC to get a much needed bye in January?

(52:42) Have the Milwaukee Bucks turned the corner? After a brutal start to their season, they’ve come all the way back to win an NBA Cup on Tuesday night over OKC. Is this a springboard to get them back to the top of the Eastern Conference? Then you have a scenario where players have criticized the new All-Star Game format. To whose fault does that fall under? I’ll peek at the upcoming weekend schedule as there are a few games to sink our teeth into, including Karl Anthony Towns returning to Minnesota for his first game there since the trade to New York.

(1:05:00) On the ice, the Rangers have maybe hit rock bottom. They got shutout by one of the worst teams in the sport (Nashville) and the front office sent another player packing as former #2 overall pick Kaapo Kakko was jettisoned to Seattle. Is a turnaround forthcoming? I’ll see what else is going on in the NHL as they inch closer to the halfway point of the season.

(1:13:11) The MLB Hot Stove is still cooking these days. The Yankees remain aggressive as they acquire Cody Bellinger from the Cubs. How will he fare behind Aaron Judge in the Bronx? The Mets made a move themselves, but for a 5th line starter in a one, Griffin Canning, formerly of the Angels. Has anyone informed them that Juan Soto was an enormous signing, but their fan base wants more? Where does Nolan Arenado go after he refused a trade to Houston?

(1:22:47) There’s a heavyweight fight in boxing on Saturday as Tyson Fury tries to redeem himself after losing to current champ, Oleksandr Usyk back in May for a second meeting. How will Fury fare here? Also, how far has boxing fallen to where the general public couldn’t tell you who the heavyweight champion is?

We’re nine days away from Christmas. There’s still some time for some shopping, cooking, whipping up some egg nog, oh yes, listening to this latest episode of what the sports landscape is serving. On deck:

(6:30) The homestretch of the NFL has taken turns in different directions after Week 15. The AFC is pretty much set with the Chiefs still the #1 seed in the conference. Although we’ll have to wait on the health of QB Patrick Mahomes’s ankle. Buffalo is looking formidable with a big win in Detroit. Am I sold on them being the team to beat in the AFC? The Steelers put up an awful performance in Philadelphia with a huge rematch vs. Baltimore in six days. While the Broncos put the Colts out to pasture. Houston clinched the AFC South. The Chargers get whacked at home and the Ravens were clicking at MetLife Stadium vs. the Giants. The NFC is topsy-turvy. With the Lions losing and the Eagles winning, they are tied atop of the conference at 12-2. There’s a chance the Vikings with a victory tonight vs. Chicago could be in a three way tie (although the Lions have the tiebreaker) Then you have the Seahawks dropping out of the top of the NFC West, where the Rams overtake Seattle for first place in the division. Will the Commanders hang onto the final spot? What about Green Bay? Even the Niners? De’Vondre Campbell, anyone? Are the Cardinals still involved? A lot to unpack here as the season comes down to its final three weeks. I’ll also mention Navy’s dominance over Army on Saturday. And Colorado’s Travis Hunter is your Heisman winner, even though Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty had something to say about that.

(37:10) Who’s been following the NBA Cup? The in-season tournament final is tomorrow night with the surging Bucks and the upstart Thunder. Who will come out on top? How important is it for both teams? I’ll get into a record setting three point matchup (and weird scheduling quirk) between the Mavericks-Warriors. Joel Embiid’s latest injury. LeBron’s return to the court. And anything else happening on the hardwood.

(49:27) As for the NHL, my beloved Islanders are welcoming back two of their top players after recovering from injuries (Mathew Barzal & Adam Pelech) Can they jumpstart this team for the immediate future?  The Avalanche get a great effort from their recent goaltending acquisition (Mackenzie Blackwood) And why is tonight’s first Stanley Cup Finals rematch (Panthers at Oilers) not being broadcasted on the major networks?

(57:09) MLB’s hot stove is still cooking as there were a couple of big trades to discuss. The Astros trade RF Kyle Tucker to the Cubs for three players. Will they re-up long term with their likely one year rental? Is this the end of the Astros championship window? The same can be said for the Yankees as they made a shrewd move, obtaining Brewers closer Devin Williams, who’s also a free agent at season’s end. I’ll put to rest of the Juan Soto circus as he met the media (no pun intended) and how he revealed in his comments, the real reason he signed with the team from Queens.

Counting down the days and weeks until Christmas and the new year, but just seconds away from getting your fix on ALL of what’s happening in the sports universe as the latest podcast is here. On deck:

(6:33) It’s coming down to this in college football. Conference Championship weekend is here with not much drama and intrigue as teams set themselves up for the first ever twelve team playoff. Is there controversy surrounding the selection committee leaving Miami out of the playoff mix, despite them being ranked 12th in the nation? If SMU has an awful performance in the ACC Championship, could Miami sneak in? Besides that, you don’t have much to hang your hat on when it comes to any possible shakeups to the postseason bracket. I’ll preview the games to see whether or not Texas will exact revenge from Georgia. Can Penn State put up a fight against the #1 team in the nation? Will Boise & Arizona State punch their tickets to the dance? Everything you need to know about what’s going to take place, I’ve got you.

(29:52) Week 14 in the NFL might as well be WEAK 14, because the schedule is just that. Although tonight, you have the best matchup by far on the docket with the Packers will visit the Lions for an NFC North battle. As much as Green Bay needs to win to keep pace in the division, I’ll share why this game is more important for Detroit in the grand scheme of things? I’ll get into the three game suspension the league handed down to Azeez Al Shaair for his hit on Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence last Sunday. Was it too harsh? Is this the end of Doug Peterson’s tenure as head coach in Jacksonville?

(41:52) The NBA Cup matchups are set (for those that are into it. Yours truly, notwithstanding) Plus, I detest the scheduling of these games has me appalled. Even one of the best players in the league (ahem, SGA of OKC) said the scenario is ‘confusing.’ So I’m not alone as far as being on top of this in-season tournament. I’ll get into that a little bit. Another key injury to Suns forward Kevin Durant. And how the Warriors and Lakers have come back to the pack after great starts.

(54:35) Alex Ovechkin’s recovery from a fractured tibia has been well ahead of schedule as he’s been skating since the injury two weeks ago, but is he that close to being back in the lineup? The Dallas Stars suffered a big injury to their team as Tyler Sequin will be out 4-6 months after hip surgery. The Minnesota Wild have overtaken the Winnipeg Jets in the Central Division with torrid play and have the most points in the sport as of today.

(1:01:16) Will the MLB Hot Stove really cook over the next week? The Winter Meetings commence on Sunday through next Thursday. It’s been reported that Juan Soto is expected to announce where he’ll sign in the coming days. You know my stance on this, if you’ve listened to the podcast. What about the Dodgers deferred money on signed free agents tallying up to 1B dollars? Is this fair? I’ll unpack this silly idea of commissioner Rob Manfred’s idea of a “golden at-bat”, meaning that their best hitter can get an extra plate appearance even if his turn was up in the lineup. Seriously? And also look to see which free agents have signed on to new teams if you’re (Aroldis Chapman, Kyle Higashioka or Matthew Boyd).

I’ve got a few leftovers from the Thanksgiving holiday as I’ll serve up plenty of sports dishes to whet your appetite as the latest podcast comes your way. On deck:

(6:38) December has arrived. Which means we’re getting close to the homestretch of the NFL regular season. The NFC has become a barnburner due to the developments of yesterday. Not just at the top of the conference as the Lions, Eagles and Vikings are fighting for a #1 seed (who comes out on top?), but the Buccaneers have drawn even with the Falcons for first place in the South. What about the Seahawks? They currently own sole possession of first place in the West as they’ve put themselves in good position to win the division. How will this all play out? I can’t forget the AFC as the Chiefs continue to squeak by winning these games like a Houdini act. Is this sustainable? The Bills aren’t letting up anytime soon. Even the Steelers keep pace with a huge win in Cincinnati. I’ll get into Matt Eberflus being shown the door in Chicago, as well as, all that’s transpired throughout the Thanksgiving weekend in the league.

(36:12) Just when you thought college football couldn’t get more interesting, you had two major upsets and a comeback for the ages by Georgia to save themselves from postseason extinction. Ohio State loses an opportunity to play in the Big 10 Championship game after Michigan beats them for a fourth straight year. Then the Miami Hurricanes inexplicably blow a 21-0 lead at Syracuse to find themselves on the losing end, and in all likelihood, will be out of the college football playoff altogether. To top it off, Georgia was down 17-0 at the half and 14 points halfway through the fourth quarter before coming from behind and winning in eight overtimes vs. Georgia Tech. Is this the win that could propel them to a deep playoff run?

(50:06) The Association had a couple of key players come back from injury. Mavericks Luka Doncic doesn’t skip a beat with a 36 point/13 assist performance from a wrist injury. While Celtics Kristaps Porzingis makes a triumphant return last week against the Clippers. You’ve also had two situations regarding players calling out their teammates with pathetic efforts in recent games, such as Anthony Edwards and Dejounte Murray which I have to expound on. I’ll look at the teams that have made some hay (ex. Rockets, Bucks) as of late and anything else that’s going on in the NBA. I’ll add on some college basketball as the two time champion UConn Huskies come off of losing three straight early this season. On a sad note, I’ll discuss the passing of former legendary St. John’s coach, Lou Carnesecca who died at the age of 99 on Saturday.

(1:04:03) What has gotten into the Washington Capitals? They’re missing their franchise player (Alexander Ovechkin) who’s out for at least three weeks with a fractured leg, have risen to the top of the Eastern Conference (despite an embarrassing moment by their goalie last week). I’ll take a look at what else is happening in the NHL, including the Winnipeg Jets who have cooled off considerably after a record breaking start to the season.

(1:11:27) MLB’s hot stove will heat up this coming Sunday as the Winter Meetings will begin. Some activity has taken place as the Dodgers have signed pitcher Blake Snell and re-signed Tommy Edman. Is Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki not too far behind? Is this good for baseball as the rich get richer? The Mets try to get into the action by signing Frankie Montas to a two year deal in their own right. Am I a fan of this deal? Plus, the Rays will play a ton of their home games (47 of them) during the first part of the year and have 69 of final 103 on the road. Why is this the case? And a farewell to former Giants SS Brandon Crawford who retires after 14 years in the big leagues.

Closing out November with an extended podcast (since I’ll take off Thursday to celebrate the holiday) but don’t despair, I’ll have plenty of courses to fill your sports appetite as the latest program is coming at ya. On deck:

(6:30) There’s no secret as college football has had a tremendous season to date, therefore needing to apologize for my prediction set a month ago. You had FIVE teams in the top 16 lose which turned the landscape of the playoff upside down. Some of the big themes that I’ll unpack. Indiana wasn’t ready to swim in the deep end of the pool as they lost to Ohio State. Do they have what it takes to qualify or make some noise in the playoff? The SEC was a huge part of how topsy turvy Saturday was. Alabama gets whacked at Oklahoma. Are they done? Texas A&M is defeated in four OT’s vs. Auburn. Do they still have a shot to get in the tournament? Ole Miss suffers a crushing loss with two late interceptions at Florida which jeopardizes their chances of a playoff. Also, BYU & Colorado lost tough games on the road where they may not make the top 12 when it’s all said and done. I’ll even preview the schedule over the holiday weekend and tell you which teams are in and out at the moment.

(28:34) NFL Week 12 had its moments, but overall wasn’t a great Sunday. Kansas City had to sweat out a win in regulation vs. the lowly Carolina Panthers on the road. Is there cause for concern regarding the two time defending champs? The Eagles are in flight behind the heroics of Saquon Barkley and his 300 yard plus performance from scrimmage. Has Barkley thrusted himself to the top of the MVP mix? Are the Washington Commanders starting to fade in the NFC East? They lost a brutal game to Dallas after a miraculous TD with seconds to go was spoiled by a missed extra point that would’ve tied the game. And what about the NFC West? Seattle is now tied with the Arizona Cardinals, but have the head to head advantage to control their own destiny at the moment. I’ll review all that’s taken place (including a not so shocking letdown in Cleveland by the Steelers) and peek at the Week 13 schedule to set you up for Thanksgiving through Monday night.

(57:38) The NBA is off in the clouds just a month into their season. I have a thought on how the Spurs have played recently and how important will it be for them to clinch a playoff spot down the road. I’ll recap who’s done well and who’s been scuffling and the upcoming schedule over the next seven days.

(1:03:16) Alexander Ovechkin will be out of the lineup for 4-6 weeks with a fractured fibula that he sustained vs. Utah last week. How does this hamper him in his quest to top Wayne Gretzky for the all time goal scoring lead in NHL history? Sidney Crosby achieves another milestone by becoming the 21st player in history with 600 goals. And there’s a new coach in St. Louis. To a sports fans surprise, the replacement is one who was just released from his position last week, in a one Jim Montgomery of the Boston Bruins. The forthcoming week has a lot of great matchups that I’ll uncover for your edification.

(1:12:07) MLB’s hot stove has been rather chilly. There were a couple of transactions that hasn’t moved the needle (Reds-Royals trade and Yusei Kikuchi signs with LAA) as the Winter Meetings are two weeks away.
