Starting off a new week of podcasts with a little debate and some controversy to get your sports engine going as the latest episode has arrived. On deck:

(3:59) The Tampa Bay Rays have had a remarkable season to date. They own the best record in the AL. As good as they’ve been, are they really a World Series threat? I’ll get into that and unpack the pennant races in both leagues as there’s plenty to discuss on that front.

(42:16) There have been several former NFL players over the past few weeks that have come out to share their diagnosis of dementia, Parkinson’s disease or ALS. Over the weekend at the Hall of Fame induction, Roger Craig announced he has dementia in a pre-recorded message. Why is the NFL silent about this? What have they done to take care of these players post career? It’s a topic that The Shield wants to sweep under the rug, but it can’t be ignored as I’ll uncover this.

(58:32) The NBA lost a coaching legend, who also made one of the biggest shots in NBA history. Don Nelson, the second winningest coach in league history died at the age of 86 as I’ll remember his basketball life.

(1:02:29) Jannik Sinner will miss the Cincinnati Open this week with a knee injury. He said he’ll be back for the US Open later this month? Is it possible that this could linger into the final Grand Slam of the year? And what about the status of defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz?

(43:56) It was a wild college football weekend with plenty of big teams losing (Miami, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Tennessee, for starters) a head coach gets an extension (Indiana’s Curt Cignetti) and a coach gets fired (Florida’s Billy Napier).

(52:47) The NBA tips off tomorrow night as I’ll check in on the over/under win totals for the season, as well as, the schedule over the next two days and Kevin Durant’s new deal in Houston.

(58:54) There are a couple of surprises in the NHL as I’ll detail the latest from around the ice just two weeks into their year.

The leaves are changing, the air is a little cooler, the sweatshirts and jackets have been dusted off, but the intensity and passion remains the same when it comes to listening to yours truly as I uncover all that’s happening in sports. On deck:

(6:35) The Blue Jays get off the mat in the ALCS with an offensive outburst in Seattle to get back in the series vs. the Mariners. Can they tie it or at least get back to Toronto for a Game 6? Meanwhile, the Dodgers are up 2-0 on the Brewers as they look to get back to another World Series. Is it a foregone conclusion that they’ll do so and win it all in consecutive years?

(28:04) NFL Week 7 kicks off in Cincinnati tonight where the Steelers will visit the Queen City. Have things broken right for Pittsburgh to possibly have a long playoff run? Also, how wide open is it throughout the league with no clear cut favorite to get to a Super Bowl?

(42:30) College football makes the turn toward the second half of their season as teams will jockey position for the right to get to the playoffs in late December. I’ll survey the landscape to see where we’re at and check in on Saturday’s schedule.

(53:33) The NHL is just a little over a week into their campaign. The Rangers have done something that no other team has done in almost 100 years.

(1:00:18) Don’t blink because the NBA will tip off this coming Tuesday as another season is on the horizon. I’ll see what’s the latest on the hardwood as teams get set for another marathon towards the playoffs next April.

It’s time to uncover the weekend and beyond of what’s taking place and what’s forthcoming when it comes to what’s between the white lines in the world of sports as the latest podcast has arrived. On deck:

(6:37) Baseball is now one step closer to a World Series as the League Championship Series have begun in the AL, with the NL to follow tonight. Are the Mariners destined to get to their first ever Fall Classic? After winning Game 1 vs. Toronto, you’d have to say it could be the case. I’ll preview the NLCS between the Dodgers-Brewers. Does Milwaukee have a psychological advantage after taking all six games from LA during the regular season? I’ll share what my best World Series matchup would be? And sadly touch on the passing of former Red Sox OF Mike Greenwell who passed away at 62.

(35:06) It was a rather ho-hum NFL Week 6, but the big storyline from yesterday are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Are they a legit Super Bowl contender? I’ll check on what else transpired yesterday as the season is a third of the way into their schedule.

(49:12) I have to shut up about Indiana Hoosier football. They impressed by winning at Oregon and finally beat a team of high ilk. Will this continue? As for a team that was expected to be back in the college football playoff, things have gone south at Penn State as they’ve lost three in a row and fired their head coach, James Franklin. Was it premature? Or was now the right time?

(58:51) LeBron James will be sidelined for 3-4 weeks with a sciatica issue. How will this impact the Lakers as the season commences a week from tomorrow? Congratulations to the Las Vegas Aces who swept the Phoenix Mercury en route to their third title in four years.

(1:03:27) Almost a week into the NHL season, there are a few things to discuss (Panthers off to 3-0 start. Same for the Bruins. Glowing reviews of Islanders #1 overall pick, Matthew Schaefer)

It’s a great day to celebrate as I get set to uncover all that’s going on in the world of sports as the latest podcast is here. On deck:

(6:21) Both the AL & NLDS has some life as baseball should take us into the weekend with some drama. The Phillies get off the deck and stave off elimination in LA, while the Cubs to the same against Milwaukee. Will they push their respective series to a fifth game? There’ll be a fifth game in Seattle as the Tigers even up the best of five with Tarik Skubal trying to get his team to the ALCS. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays have punched their ticket to the next round by defeating the Yankees three games to one, which means a happy Yankee postmortem is forthcoming to start the podcast.

October is here. Which means it’s time to begin new seasons, in the middle of a couple of others and the conclusion of another where there’ll be lots of scrutiny, attention and intrigue. I’ll have it all for you right here as the latest podcast has arrived. On deck:

(6:48) MLB will have the first ever trio of Game 3’s in the wild card round. I’ll breakdown how we got here, who will possibly move onto the Division Series and highlight the storylines involving the four teams (Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Toronto & Seattle) as play will commence on Saturday.

(39:18) NFL Week 5 kicks off with an NFC West battle between division rival San Francisco vs. LA Rams. As for the rest of the schedule? It’s actually pretty light. The middle of August has brought us to a rather quiet sports period, but nevertheless, you’ll get my insight and input on whatever is happening as the latest podcast has arrived. On deck:

(6:20) What is going on with the defending champion Dodgers? Not only do they get swept by their rivals down the freeway (the Angels) but their division foes further down the interstate (the Padres) are now in first place. I’ll dissect if LA is just bored of the regular season or if there are concerns in Dodgerland? I’ll share my thoughts on the latest pennant races, Pete Alonso’s historic home run and more.

(28:45) The NFL preseason moves along with not much going on. Some injured QB news, a signing in Buffalo and whatever else is of importance.

(33:36) New owners in the NBA are the main topic here as the Celtics sale is official, while the Blazers look to stay in Portland thanks to a buyer who’s looking to keep the team there.

(38:36) The Atlanta Dream have taken over second place overall in the WNBA as the New York Liberty have another couple of dates with the Minnesota Lynx with a home and home series starting Saturday in the Twin Cities.

(41:20) UFC 319 is Saturday night as middleweights Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev will fight for the title.

Or is it possible that they’re peaking too soon? The state of baseball in New York seems to be going from bad to worse with the Yankees and Mets. Plus, the news, notes and playoff races up to the minute. 

(41:34) Browns rookie QB Shedeur Sanders made a big first impression with two touchdowns in his debut vs. the Panthers. Is this noteworthy or much ado about nothing? Also, some key injuries to report regarding top offensive lineman. And Cam Heyward wants a raise now?

(51:17) The NBA schedule has been released. It sure looks like the West has won regarding air time on a couple of key nights.

(56:33) The Minnesota Lynx have bigger heights to reach as they take care of their Finals opponent from last year in the Liberty on the road. Is a championship a foregone conclusion at this point?

(1:02:59) Panthers forward Matthew Tkackuk is considering surgery which will sideline him for two to three months. Why is it taking him so long to decide as training camp is a month away?

As summer slowly starts to slip away from us, that can't be said about the sports world, even if it's been a slog lately. I'll share all that's happening and then some. On deck:

(2:56) I commence the pod with some housekeeping. I completed my first full vlog (i.e. video log) that I uploaded on my YouTube channel (@JAYREELZ). Whatever Happened To The Old Grounds At Yankee Stadium is an 18 minute project detailing how the old 'Cathedral of Baseball' is a shell of its old self. I highlight the many historic moments, events, players that stepped foot on that hallowed ground. Please go to the channel to subscribe, like and comment as I'll have much more content in the days and weeks to come. I'd be remiss if I didn't shout out my dad, who turns 73 today to wish him a happy birthday.

(5:09) Break up the Seattle Mariners. They're in the middle of a six game winning streak. They just swept the Houston Astros on the road and nipping on their heels in the wild card race, but now they're just three games back of the AL West leading Texas Rangers. Can they actually make a push to win the division? The Milwaukee Brewers did the Mariners a favor by sweeping the Rangers in Texas over the weekend. Are they a threat in the NL because of their excellent starting pitching and top notch closer? The Red Sox also put some distance between them and the Yankees after breaking out the brooms in Yankee Stadium the past three days. Who is going to be the fall guy as the Bombers (in the middle of an eight game losing streak) may end up on the outside looking in when it comes to making the postseason in October? Besides that, you don't have much (although you have five teams for two wild card spots in the NL - Giants, Cubs, Reds, Marlins & Diamondbacks) that'll be a rock fight over the next month and change.

(27:25) All is quiet on the NFL front as we approach the final week of preseason games, including Aaron Rodgers getting some burn against the Giants in the coming days. (And no, I still haven't watched Hard Knocks as of yet.)

(30:25) The NBA schedule has been released. I'll go over a surprising opening night doubleheader, the Christmas Day games which'll conflict with the three NFL games that'll take place that day. You KNOW I'll add my two cents on this and I'll hold off from talking about the James Harden saga in Philadelphia, although I do make a mention of it.

(39:31) Lastly, Lionel Messi-mania has made its impact in South Florida with the Inter Miami team as he continues to his stellar play. Has it spread up here in the Northeast? What about the rest of the country? Is it because the MLS doesn't have the talent or competition to match the leagues overseas?
