Madness Takeaways: Big East Snubs, UCONN’s Tough Bracket & Purdue’s Easy Path. Steelers Shock With Pickett & Fields Trades. MLB In Korea. Game Clock Issues In LA?

Spring is officially arriving tomorrow, but right now is the latest podcast detailing ALL that’s happening in the sports universe. On deck:

(4:16) We can finally usher out the Sports Dead Zone, Part 1 (at least until summer) and begin a huge stretch of sports talk over the next few months. Jump starting that is the Madness of March. The NCAA Tournament tips off tomorrow night with the First Four, and in earnest, on Thursday with the first of two days of college basketball from 12 noon to 1:00am. I’ll discuss the top three storylines of the selection process (Mountain West over Big East), UCONN’s tough bracket to defend their title. And Purdue’s cakewalk to a Final Four, considering how their bracket unfolded. I’ll get into the whole bracket on Thursday’s pod, so this is the appetizer to set you up for the main course later in the week. I’ll take a peek at how I was disappointed of the selection committee on the women’s side, where they have Iowa and LSU in the same bracket and not different brackets.

(24:36) What has gone on in Pittsburgh this offseason? It’s almost as if the Steelers have had an identity shift. I say that because just the past few days alone, they traded their former #1 pick Kenny Pickett to the Eagles. Then surprised me in acquiring Justin Fields of the Bears for what? A sixth round pick? I’ll unpack all of what GM Omar Khan has done to date and assess how this was a change from the front office that even their biggest fans didn’t expect? I’ll discuss what the Vikings did by picking up another first round pick (via Houston) Some other key signings/trades that transpired. And the retirement of Rams DT Aaron Donald, who called it a career on Friday after ten years in STL & LA.

(41:43) As much as we’re looking forward for the baseball season to start next Thursday, it actually starts on Wednesday. That’s right! The Dodgers-Padres will kick off 2024 in Korea for two games. Am I cool with MLB throwing out the first pitch outside of American soil? The Yankees dodged a potential catastrophe to their starting rotation regarding the health to Cy Young ace Gerrit Cole, but do they still look for reinforcements since the aforementioned will be out for at least a month? Then Mets owner, Steve Cohen, addressed the media to announce that 1B Pete Alonso will likely not be signed before Opening Day. YOU KNOW that I have something to say about that with the season starting in ten days.

(52:27) The Association is rather low key, despite a wild and inexplicable final two minutes of the Warriors-Lakers game because of game clock and shot clock malfunctions as the Dubs won in LA. Speaking of LA, the Clippers have hit the skids, losing 4 of 5 and not having an identity, as stated by Paul George. What’s going on there? I’ll see where we’re at throughout the league with the latest in the standings as we’re about a month away from the conclusion of the NBA season.

(59:30) Besides my Islanders going through a bad stretch of late, falling out of the Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference (albeit a point in the standings as of this moment), the NHL is status quo as I’ll take a trip around the ice as they head into the homestretch.

(1:03:23) With The Masters teeing up three weeks from this coming Thursday, the TPC at Sawgrass took place over the weekend. Scottie Scheffler is the first player ever to win back to back as he shot -20 and a 64 in the final round as he’s primed for another run as the top golfer on the tour. NOTE: I mentioned that Scheffler won the Masters last year. It was in 2022. Jon Rahm won last year. My apologies for the error.

(1:04:57) Although it’s not a Grand Slam in the world of tennis, the winners at Indian Wells were Iga Swiatek on the women’s side and Carlos Alcaraz (who stopped Jannik Sinner’s 19 match consecutive streak) captured the men’s title as both winners look to build on their victories with the French Open two months away.

Chiefs DNA, Lamar/Harbaugh Miscues, Lions Clock Strikes 12, 49ers Resilient Caps Title Games. Luka Nets 73. Can That Be Topped? Oilers Date With History On Big Pause. Sinner's Epic Comeback Wins AO

Closing out the first month of the year with plenty to digest and dissect on all that took place in sports, so get your earbuds, headphones or speakers ready as I share all of my thoughts, opinions and analysis. On deck:

(3:15) We have a Super Bowl LVIII matchup set in two weeks at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. One that we're very familiar with. Kansas City showed their grit and championship DNA in winning another huge road game, 17-10 over the Baltimore Ravens. What went wrong for the #1 seeded Ravens? Is this all on the QB Lamar Jackson? What about the head coach John Harbaugh? Oh, there is much to unpack here as the Chiefs go back to the Super Bowl for the fourth time in five years to defend their title from last year. As for the nightcap, all of Michigan must be sick because the Lions weren't able to seal the deal vs. the 49ers. What was the head coach, Dan Campbell, thinking on going for it not once, but TWICE, instead of kicking a field goal? Another Niner comeback propels them in a rematch of Super Bowl LIV in Miami where the Chiefs and 49ers will go at it in less than two weeks. I'll unpack every fiber of what took place yesterday, take a peek at some coaching hires as we're just one game away from the 2023 NFL season concluding.

(35:38) Luka Doncic put up 73 points on Friday night vs. Atlanta, days after Joel Embiid scored 70 points in his own right. Will we see a player eclipse what Luka did? Could someone score 80? Surpass Kobe Bryant's 81, 18 years ago? You have a big regular season game tonight out West when the top two teams in the conference face off in OKC where the Timberwolves face the Thunder. There are two reunions on Wednesday with Kevin Durant going back to Brooklyn for the first time since the trade last year and Damian Lillard's return to Portland where he spent all of his career before being dealt to Milwaukee last summer.

(51:47) Not much happening in MLB. Do I get crazy about the Tigers signing one of their prospects to a 28.5 million dollar deal (INF Colt Keith) when we saw this earlier in the offseason with the Milwaukee Brewers?

(52:29) The first Grand Slam tournament in tennis has completed. Jannik Sinner had an Australian Open to remember. He not only beat Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, but came back down two sets to love in the final vs. Daniil Medvedev to win his first men's title 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. On the women's side, Aryna Sabalenka was victorious winning back to back titles (NOTE: I made the correction at the very end of the podcast. I stated that this was her first Aussie Open win. She's now won consecutive AO tournaments) to complete a very intriguing tournament overall, with the French up next in the spring.

Lamar's Time, Chiefs Title Defense, Lions Destiny, Shanahan Pressure In AFC/NFC Title Games. Harbaugh's Presence In LA. Can Doc Save The Bucks? Oilers On Notice. MLB HOF Inductees

Another venture into the sports universe with yours truly as I share the latest episode with plenty to dive into. On deck:

(2:50) We're just days away from the AFC & NFC Championship Games. I'm going with a different tact to uncover the perspective of each team heading into Sunday's games. Is this Lamar Jackson's time to take his team to the promised land? Are the Chiefs playing with house money as a defending champion? Will the Lions finally get to their first Super Bowl with destiny, possibly on their side? And how much pressure is on Niners coach, Kyle Shanahan, to get back to and win the whole thing? I'll get into all of that and share my analysis of what may come as we're one step closer to Super Bowl LVIII. There's big news coming out of LA as Jim Harbaugh is the new Chargers coach. Will his presence not only bring them back to respectability, but also become an elite team in the sport? And what's the latest with Bill Belichick? Is he going to end up in Atlanta? Why did they ask for a second interview?

(30:06) The Milwaukee Bucks have had an interesting week. The front office dismissed first year coach Adrian Griffin due to their ineptitude on defense. They bring in Doc Rivers as a replacement. Is he the right guy for this job? The Heat make a good trade (Terry Rozier) but is he a fit for the Heat Culture in Miami? What about the championship aspirations for the Minnesota Timberwolves, as well as, the Oklahoma City Thunder? I know we're just past the halfway point of the season, but are they in this for the long haul? How about the Phoenix Suns moving up the standings out West? And Joel Embiid's 70 point game the other night are some of the things I unpack as I check on what's happening in the Association.

(42:48) On the ice, the Edmonton Oilers are clicking on all cylinders, winners of 14 in a row. At some point they'll cool off, but can this team make some noise and become a Cup contender? Vancouver, Winnipeg and Colorado have played well during this recent stretch. And there's an accusation of a handful NHL players involved in an alleged sexual assault dating back to 2018 which has a bad optic at the moment as I'll bring the latest of what's going on in the NHL.

(50:01) We're down to the final few days of the Australian Open. On the men's side, Carlos Alcaraz has been beaten by Daniil Medvedev in four sets, thwarting another opportunity to have an epic showdown with Novak Djokovic. Was that a blow to the tennis fan? As for the women's side, Coco Gauff was unable to win back to back Grand Slams as she lost to Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals. Is it tough for the US tennis fan to not have much to root for? I'll stay on top of who'll win down under as we'll revisit this on Monday's podcast.

(53:07) The Baseball Writers of America (BBWA) have elected Adrian Beltre, Joe Mauer and Todd Helton, leaving out Billy Wagner, Gary Sheffield among others. Did they choose the right three guys? Who belongs? Who doesn't?

Chiefs Heart/Mahomes Greatness. Bills Gut Punch. Lamar Delivers. 49ers Escape & Detroit Rock City Wraps Divisional Round. NBA Slog At Halfway Point. Isles Hire WHO As Coach? Hader Lands In Houston

Here to unpack all that has taken place in the sports world the past few days and beyond, you've come to the right place to get your fill on all that's transpired. On deck:

(2:58) And then there were four. A thrilling Divisional Round in the NFL capped off by another Bills-Chiefs showdown where Kansas City guts out a 27-24 road win in Patrick Mahomes first ever playoff road game. I'll discuss their toughness, grit and the greatness of the Chief quarterback, who I think is already a Hall of Fame QB. As for the Bills, it was another bitter disappointing playoff defeat for a fan base seeking their first Super Bowl win. Is it time to make some significant changes to their roster in order to get to the mountaintop? The Baltimore Ravens showed why they were the best team in the AFC. They stormed out of the locker room at halftime to run the Houston Texans out of the building in a 34-10 win. The 49ers dodged a serious missile as Brock Purdy showed he can anchor a game winning drive down more than a field goal in a 24-21 win. And give it up to the Detroit Lions who make their first conference championship in 33 years as they hung on to beat a very game Buccaneers team. The Final Four are set. Chiefs-Ravens. Lions-49ers. I'll get into those two games on Thursday's podcast as we have just THREE more NFL games left on the schedule.

(32:59) The latest in the NBA over the past three weeks have been relatively quiet. What is there to assess? What is there to address? Trae Young's concussion. RJ Barrett & Immanuel Quickley returning to MSG as members of the Raptors? I'll dig up what I can as teams are just about or past the halfway point of their season.

(41:00) On the ice, my beloved NY Islanders made a shocking move. Not by firing coach Lane Lambert, but hiring legendary goaltender Patrick Roy patrolling the team. Is this a good move by this underachieving squad? Ironically, Marc-Andre Fleury surpassed the aforementioned netminder to become the second all time winningest goalie in NHL history. And the Edmonton Oilers continue to be the hottest team in the sport, winners of a bakers dozen (13 games) as they are STILL six points behind the second place Vegas Golden Knights in the Pacific Division. I'll peruse what else is going on in the NHL as they're just a couple of weeks away from the All-Star Break.

(51:00) We're into the second week of the Australian Open. The men's side has been chalk to date, but on the women's side, there have been plenty of upsets including #1 seeded Iga Swiatek over the weekend. This sets up Coco Gauff to win back to back Grand Slams dating back to the US Open last year. I'll keep you guys and gals abreast of her and everyone else's progress on the next podcast as the tournament goes deeper into the week.

(53:23) Another big time MLB free agent has been signed, with still a few more (i.e. Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, Cody Bellinger and Matt Chapman, et. al) to go. Closer Josh Hader signed a five year deal with the Houston Astros. Does this make them the favorite to go back to not just the ALCS, but World Series?

Lamar, Kyle Shanahan & Bills Exorcising Chief Demons Headline Divisional Round. Mike McCarthy Returns. Why? Pacers Trade To Compete In East? Swiatek Survives, But Other Top Seeds Don't At Aussie

If it's unrelenting, passionate sports talk that you're looking for, then look no further as I'll delve in on all that's transpired and what's ahead in the world of sports. On deck:

(2:49) We get to, what I feel, is the best weekend of football. The NFL Divisional Round. First up, a recap of Monday's two games to wrap up the Wild Card Weekend. My beloved Pittsburgh Steelers lose up in Buffalo as I'll have a postmortem (although Coach Mike Tomlin is returning in 2024) What does this mean for the team moving forward? The inexplicable happened in Tampa as the Philadelphia Eagles mailed in the final month plus with an uninspiring 32-9 loss to the Buccaneers. Should the head coach, Nick Sirianni, be fired because of this terrible stretch. I'll get into the three big storylines of the four games this weekend. Will Lamar Jackson rise to the occasion after an MVP regular season? Is it time for Kyle Shanahan to get back to a Super Bowl, considering the road to Las Vegas is a borderline cakewalk? How about the Buffalo Bills exorcising playoff demons against the Kansas City Chiefs, this time in their home stadium? And can the Detroit Lions get to their first conference championship game since 1991 with a win against Tampa Bay? I'll uncover all of that, including the puzzling return of Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy after Sunday's debacle vs. Green Bay.

(36:57) The Indiana Pacers made a significant upgrade to their team, acquiring Raptors guard Pascal Siakam, to go along with Tyrese Halliburton and Myles Turner. Can they compete in the East with Boston, Milwaukee & Philadelphia? I'll also discuss the sad and tragic passing of Warriors assistant coach, Dejan Milojevic who suffered a heart attack in Utah on Tuesday night. Oklahoma City has dodged a public relations nightmare as Josh Giddey was found no wrongdoing in an alleged relationship with a minor. The NBA will have another in season tournament with some tweaks next year. Will they have it during the same time (early November-early December) the second go-round? I like that the NBA Draft is going to two nights in order to slow the progress of a rapid second round as the league does their best to spread out the event instead of packing it all in one evening.

(50:21) On the ice, it's been status quo. My Islanders continue to sink in the Metropolitan Division and the Red Wings will be without Patrick Kane for some time with a lower body injury, unrelated to the hip injury dating back to last year.

(53:00) As for what's happening in the Australian Open, the women's side has had plenty of top seeds go by the board. Ons Jabeur, Jessica Pegula & Elena Rybakina all were ousted, which almost was the case for #1 women's player, Iga Swiatek, who came back in the third set down 4-1 to advance. On the men's side, it's been chalk as no major upsets have taken place, although Novak Djokovic has been given a run for his money as he's had to work to win the first two rounds in four sets against two unknowns.

Cowboys Collapse. Is Mike McCarthy On Hot Seat? CJ Stroud's Rising Stock. Chiefs Primed For Super Run? Celebration In Detroit. NBA & NHL Halfway Point: Who's Watching? Osaka Ousted At Aussie Open

On another Monday holiday, this time honoring the late, great Dr. Martin Luther King as I share my thoughts on all that the sports world has to offer as the latest edition is forthcoming. On deck:

(3:05) You had another Not So Super Wild Card Weekend as three of the four games fell short. It's another long offseason in Dallas as the Cowboys were a complete no show at home vs. the Packers in a 48-32 defeat. What will come out from this as Jerry Jones has lots to answer to after a bitter defeat against the #7 in the conference. Will head coach Mike McCarthy survive this? I'll tell you what I would do if I were the Cowboys owner as they'll have to wait another season for a shot at an elusive Super Bowl appearance. I'll also get into the rise of CJ Stroud and his performance vs. the Browns. The Chiefs dominant against a depleted Dolphins team. Are they primed for another Super Bowl run? And a celebration in Detroit as the Lions win their first playoff game in over three decades over a feisty Rams team. Plus, there are two playoff games today that I'll touch on (Steelers-Bills, Eagles-Buccaneers) as Super Wild Card Weekend comes to a close later today. CORRECTION: In discussing the Lions win over the Rams, I mixed up that the Lions, not the Rams, hung on for dear life at the end of the game. My apologies for the faux pas.

(30:59) Both the NBA & NHL are just about or past the halfway point of their long seasons respectively. You can also through college basketball into the mix. Is anyone REALLY paying attention or watching, considering that there hasn't been much buzz here to start off the 2024 year?

(48:49) Pitchers and catchers are a month away, baseball fans. There have been a few transactions regarding pitchers (notably Yankees signing Marcus Stroman & Cubs signing Japanese lefty Shota Imanaga) What about the bigger stars (i.e. Blake Snell, Cody Bellinger, Josh Hader, Matt Chapman) that have been on no teams radar to date?

(53:17) The first Grand Slam of the tennis year has arrived as the Australian Open has commenced down under. There's already been a defeat of a big name on the women's side (i.e. Naomi Osaka) just a day into the tournament. I'll preview as to what we could possibly expect over the next two weeks as tennis is a part of our consciousness just three weeks into the New Year.

Jaguars Gag. Bills Take AFC East Flag. Eagles Lag & Juicy Wild Card Storylines. Harbaugh's Last Hurrah At Michigan? Nat'l Champ Preview. Draymond's Return. Big Loss In NHL. No Nadal Down Under

Even with winter in full effect (depending on where you live), the sports world has plenty of heat as I'm happy to provide all of my analysis and opinions on all that's happening in the toy department of life. On deck:

(3:00) The NFL regular season has concluded. It was a wild Week 18 as there were teams that were looking for a playoff spot, playoff positioning or winning a division altogether. The Houston Texans eked out a close win in Indianapolis to not only secure a playoff spot, but win the AFC South. That is because of the untimely collapse of the Jacksonville Jaguars, who lost in Tennessee to not only blow the division, but miss out on the playoffs altogether. With that, the Pittsburgh Steelers get into the tournament with their win in Baltimore. Then you had the Buccaneers win the NFC South after a ho-hum win in Carolina, which left the Saints and Falcons on the outside looking in. In the final game of the year, the Buffalo Bills took what was theirs (another AFC East title) after beating the Miami Dolphins in South Florida. A complete recap of what took place. The top three storylines of the Wild Card round (i.e. Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions) the six matchups this weekend and who's out as coach on Black Monday as there have been a couple of firings in Atlanta & Washington already. And, oh yes, my final tally of my over/under win totals of 2023, which came to a screeching halt yesterday afternoon.

(39:56) A national champion will be crowned tonight in college football tonight as Michigan-Washington will square off in Houston. Is this going to be the last time we see coach Jim Harbaugh on the Wolverines sideline? I'll have a preview of what to possibly expect as we'll have our first title game of the new year.

(45:21) The Association has been rather quiet, but there's a big return by the Bay as Draymond Green will come back from his 12 game suspension? Will he be on his best behavior moving forward? In the process, they'll also miss Chris Paul as he needs surgery for an injured left hand.

(51:17) On the ice, the NHL takes a huge hit as #1 overall pick, Connor Bedard, will be out of the lineup for the Blackhawks due to a broken jaw he suffered in New Jersey on Friday night. There was an enormous milestone reached by Minnesota Wild goaltender, Marc-Andre Fleury. Not only did he recently play in his 1,000th game, but he tied legendary goalie Patrick Roy for second all time with 551 wins. Is Fleury a first ballot, lock down Hall of Famer?

(58:08) With the Australian Open commencing next week, they'll be without Rafael Nadal. He was on the mend and ready for a comeback but had to withdraw from the first Grand Slam tournament of the year with a hip injury. How much of a blow this will be for the sport?

(1:00:32) In baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers are at it again as they sign OF Teoscar Hernandez to a 1 year deal. Has the pressure ratcheted up as they continue to reload an already loaded team?

Remembering 9/11. Cowboys/49ers Dominant. Lions/Dolphins Heroic. Bengals/Steelers/Giants Awful Cap NFL Week 1. Is Alabama Done? Mike Trout On Trade Block? Coco, Novak Open Champs. Shocking MMA Upset

On a day that this country will never forget, I'll do my best to get us through a busy past few days in the sports world as I share with you the latest podcast. On deck:

(2:50) I'll reflect on a day that us as a nation we'll sadly always remember. My experience of the attack on lower Manhattan as I was just a few blocks from both planes that struck the World Trade Center and how that day impacted me and the rest of us as I revisit that horrific incident 22 years ago today.

(9:36) As I transition to the toy department of life, Week 1 of the NFL arrived with plenty to unpack, especially when it comes to my winners (i.e. Detroit, Miami and Green Bay) and losers (i.e. Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and NY Giants) I'll get into the Cowboys dismantling of the Giants in their building. Same for the Niners putting it on the Steelers. What about QB Brock Purdy? He continues his winning ways, but I have a thought on something that we haven't seen yet from Mr. Irrelevant when thrust in a big pressure spot that hasn't been discussed. I'll recap all of that transpired yesterday and Thursday night, with a look ahead to tonight's Monday night matchup between the Bills-Jets.

(36:11) Are the Alabama Crimson Tide already out of the college football playoff discussion? A surprising loss at home against the Texas Longhorns has them behind the eight-ball just two weeks into this season on whether or not they'll end up as one of the final four to play for a national championship. Also, the big story in the sport is what's happening in Boulder, CO as the Buffaloes have gotten off to a 2-0 start behind coach Deion Sanders. They have a trap game against their in-state rival Colorado St. this week, with games against Oregon and USC after that. Is a possible letdown in order?

(43:25) We're down to the final three weeks in the baseball season. A developing story coming out of Anaheim has the front office approaching Mike Trout to discuss a possible trade for the future Hall of Famer. Where will he go? How much will the Angels pay the whopping $245 million that's owed to him? And what will they get in return? Don't look now, but the Houston Astros are in first place in the AL West. Why it's important for them to win the division this year? I'll cover the rest of the baseball landscape, especially the AL East race, as well as, the NL Wild Card race as we down to the final 20-ish games of the year.

(56:10) Coco Gauff finally wins her first ever Grand Slam title as she's the US Open Champ on the women's side. While it's the same old song on the men's side as Novak Djokovic secures his 24th Slam championship, defeating Daniil Medvedev in straight sets, stamping his approval of who the GOAT is in tennis all time.

(1:00:44) A shocking upset in MMA happened Saturday night as middleweight Israel Adesanya was unable to beat fill-in and handpicked opponent Sean Strickland, losing by decision. Is a rematch forthcoming where Adesanya can exact some revenge?

Loaded AFC, Weak NFC, Pressure On Rodgers/Jets Headline 2023 NFL Preview. Clemson Stinker, Stanford/Cal To ACC, Texas-Bama. Urias Torpedoes LA's Series Hopes, Scherzer Gags. US Open Semis On Deck

Are you ready for some football? It's time to usher in a new campaign as I'll dissect that and everything else that's happening in sports as the most recent podcast is at your disposal. On deck:

(2:57) Rejoice NFL fans, the season is here! It's time to breakdown every aspect of this upcoming year. The storylines of how poor the NFC is, while the AFC is loaded. The pressure and spotlight squarely on Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets. I'll cover all of the divisions, have over/under win totals, my knockout pool pick, squeeze in a preview of my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers and predict who'll face off in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas next February.

(43:49) Clemson put up an absolute stinker vs. Duke on Monday night. In the process, they may have torpedoed any chance of making the college football playoff. I'll discuss the preposterous move for Stanford, Cal & SMU to the ACC starting next year and peek at the Week 2 schedule as Texas-Alabama is the big matchup to watch.

(47:55) Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias has put his teams chances to go back to a World Series in jeopardy as he was arrested for his second domestic violence charge last Sunday. Is this the last that we've seen of him? The Rangers have been in a freefall over the last month. It culminated last night at the hands of their in-state rival Astros, as we they were swept at home and Max Scherzer did not deliver in a game that absolutely had to have. Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton reached a home run milestone (No. 400) earlier this week. He has a shot for 500 career homers. Is he Hall of Fame worthy? I'll bring you up to date on the latest wild card and division races as we inch closer to the conclusion of the MLB season.

(57:29) We're down to the semifinals at the US Open. I'll discuss the final four matches on both the men's and women's side. Will there be another Novak Djokovic-Carlos Alcaraz final? Is this Coco Gauff's tournament to lose?

MLB Homestretch With Log Jams In NL Wild Card & AL West. NFL Over/Unders Review. Colorado Resurgence, Jalen Milroe's Big Day, FSU Back Highlights College Football. Swiatek Out/Coco Gauff's Moment

As we gear up for the final days of summer, the sports universe starts to pick up furiously so I have plenty to unpack as the latest episode is here. On deck:

(2:43) With the Labor Day holiday weekend coming to a close, we're in the homestretch of the baseball season as we have two critical races to watch. I'll get into the NL Wild Card picture as you have four teams (i.e. Miami, San Francisco, Arizona and Cincinnati) fighting for one spot ALL with roughly the same record. And the AL West has a three team race (i.e. Seattle, Texas, Houston) for the division title. There is another chase to pay attention to as the Orioles and Rays are battling it out for the AL East. The Braves had an impressive weekend in LA as they won three out of four games, but it was an eventful week for Ronald Acuna Jr. Not only did he have some huge games vs. the Dodgers, but he got married in a morning ceremony on Thursday, as well as, getting ambushed by two fans in Colorado on the field in the middle of a game last Tuesday. I'll also review my over/under win totals of the year thus far, to see where I stand for the six teams that I chose at the beginning of the season.

(18:52) The NFL season begins in three days. I'll review the over/under win totals for the 2023 campaign with some likes, dislikes and hints as to who I may choose come Thursday's podcast when I'll have my full football preview at that time.

(27:38) College football is in full swing. I'll take a peek at the highlights of the weekend including Deion Sanders coaching debut and huge win vs. TCU. Alabama QB Jalen Milroe's impressive start and is Florida State back as they beat LSU behind their young QB Jordan Travis.

(34:42) The US Open is into its second week. We almost had a major upset on the men's side as Novak Djokovic survived a scare on Friday night. There was a huge upset on the women's side as the #1 player Iga Swiatek lost in surprising fashion to someone who's not a household name (i.e. Jelena Ostapenko). Which sets it up for Coco Gauff, who now has to get it done, finally get to a Grand Slam final...and win!

AL West Rockfight, Under The Radar Phillies & Mets Embarrass Themselves Again. Can Georgia 3-Peat? Colts RB Taylor Trade Will Have To Wait. Major Upsets At US Open. The End Of Venus Williams?

September is a-calling, but I'm not through with August just yet as I close out the month and this rough stretch of sports that we've experienced as the latest podcast has arrived. On deck:

(2:46) Let's all rejoice as we have finally made it out of the Sports Dead Zone, Part 2. Things will pick up considerably from here until the end of 2023. First up is what's going on in baseball. Will the pennant races heat up in September? I think we can say that's the case in the AL West as the Mariners, Astros and Rangers (separated by one game) will be in a rock fight to see who'll come out on top as division winners come October 1st. I'll break down who may have a leg up with the schedule as we get to the homestretch of the season. Don't look now, but the Phillies are laying in the weeds as a dangerous team in the NL. We saw it last year as they went on to play in the World Series. Do they have another deep postseason run in them? And I have to throw in my two cents about the Mets. Why did they give Max Scherzer a video tribute is beyond me? Is this how the sports world works in this day and age? My displeasure will rock your earbuds, headphones or speakers so you won't want to miss that. I'll keep you up to date on the latest playoff chase and look ahead to some interesting series this holiday weekend.

(26:30) College football is back! The season begins in earnest over the next few days. The big question going into the new year, can Georgia three peat? I'll get into that and other top storylines (i.e. can Alabama get back to the college football playoff? Is there a Cinderella that can go to a final four?) with a rather predictable take on what to expect here in the college circuit over the next few months.

(40:51) The Colts were unable to trade star RB Jonathan Taylor over the past couple of weeks. He'll be inactive until Week 5. Could he be showcased for a trade before the deadline in late October/early November? Bengals QB Joe Burrow is back on the field practicing. Was he being held out to protect himself for a big payday?

(43:30) There have been some major upsets on the men's side at the US Open (#4 Holger Rune, #5 Casper Ruud and #7 Stefanos Tsitsipas) which will help towards another hotly anticipated matchup between Novak Djokovic-Carlos Alcaraz. A good story coming out of Flushing Meadow is what Caroline Wozniacki has done so far, moving onto the third round after an upset over #11 Petra Kvitova. Then there's Venus Williams. At 42 years of age and another first round exit, is it time for her to hang it up?

(49:57) Lastly, I'll share when training camps open up for the NHL & NBA as the fall and winter sports will start to creep into our consciousness before you know it.

Mariners Rise Or Rangers Demise In AL West. NY Teams In Last Place. What About '24? Strasburg Retires. Trey Lance's Future. Giannis: One Foot Out In Milwaukee? US Open Preview

With summer slipping away, there's no time to get sad as there's quite a bit to unpack as the first of two podcasts this week awaits. On deck:

(3:10) We're finally coming out of our Sports Dead Zone as September looms, but baseball is still at the forefront. Don't look now, but there's a new division leader at the top of the AL West. The Seattle Mariners have come all the way back from a .500 team to first place, where the Texas Rangers resided until last night. Is this more of a Rangers collapse than a Mariners resurgence? Then you have both New York teams in LAST PLACE this late in the season for the first time in over 30 years. Who's better off moving forward in 2024? The Mets or Yankees. There was an expected and disappointing retirement as Nationals pitcher, Stephen Strasburg called it a career due to injuries. At least, he won a World Series and Series MVP in the process. I'll take a look at the latest races in the AL & NL wild card as we get closer to the end of the regular season.

(34:21) The Trey Lance experiment in San Francisco went up in smoke as the former 2021 #3 pick overall was shipped to Dallas for a fourth round pick. For all of the promise coming out of North Dakota St., where does his career go from here?

(38:48) Notre Dame kicked off the college football season in grand style over in Dublin with a rout over Navy. The college circuit begins in full earnest on Thursday which I'll get into in depth at that time.

(39:58) Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has thrown down the gauntlet to the front office that if they do not surround him with championship caliber talent, he may not sign a three year extension that he's eligible for come September 22nd. Was he out of line in saying so?

(46:13) The final Grand Slam tournament in tennis commences today as the US Open is in full swing out at Flushing Meadow in Queens. Will we see another Carlos Alcaraz-Novak Djokovic final? What about the women's side? Is it wide open? Is it Iga Swiatek's tournament to lose?

(52:14) A couple of notable signings on the ice as the Tampa Bay Lightning re-sign Brandon Hagel to an eight year extension? Is he worthy of it? While the Rangers ink Alexis Lafreniere to a two year deal, who's been disappointing as a highly touted #1 pick overall a few years ago.

Alcaraz's Legend Launches With Win At Wimbledon. Ohtani On The Trading Block?/Orioles Threat In AL East. Tyreek Hill 2K Yards? Saquon's 4pm Deadline? Oops! I Almost Forgot. Messi-Mania In Miami!

Another week arrives as I deliver more heat to your speakers, earbuds or headphones when it comes to fast paced, action packed sports talk as the latest podcast is here! On deck:

(3:08) The future, maybe even the present of tennis has arrived! 20 year old, Carlos Alcaraz defeats arguably the greatest men's player in the history of the sport, Novak Djokovic to win his first ever Wimbledon tournament. Is he not just the next big thing? Is he now? On the women's side, Marketa Vondrousova shocked the world as an unseeded player to win the whole thing, beating Ons Jabeur, who cannot get over the hump as she lost another opportunity to win a Grand Slam major.

(17:00) Baseball makes its return from the All-Star Break as series resumed this past weekend. With the Los Angeles Angels slowly but surely slipping away from the American League wild card race, is it quite possible that Shohei Ohtani will be on the move before the trade deadline August 1st? I'll take a look at what went on in the MLB, including the red hot Orioles who not only pose a threat in the division, but possibly the entire league with their current eight game winning streak? Can they procure some big time starting pitching to take them to greater heights? The quest for batting .400 if your Marlins Luis Arraez. I'll also peek ahead at a couple of good series with the Dodgers-Orioles being the highlight of the early part of the week. And the 2024 schedule has been released, which is the earliest that I can ever recall.

(36:18) We're a week away from NFL training camps opening up throughout the country. I can't say I'll be fully invested or excited (not to worry, I'll explain why) What I can say is that Tyreek Hill has some lofty goals for the upcoming season. He's shooting for a 2,000 yard season receiving. Is it achievable? Yes. But it'll be with an asterisk if he does it. (Again, I'll explain why) The Jets re-sign DT, Quinnen Williams as expectations for him and the team will be astronomical. The Giants have a big decision to make (and only have a few hours of me typing this) to get a deal done for RB Saquon Barkley by 4pm today. Will they sign the former #2 pick overall?

(44:02) The NBA summer league concludes today with little to no fanfare, but on the ice, the Arizona Coyotes were in the news the past couple of days. They did the right thing by releasing a player they just signed to a one year deal (i.e. Alex Galchenyuk) as he was arrested in Scottsdale, AZ due to disorderly conduct and threatening a training officer after hitting a curb and sign while alleged being impaired. A disturbing and shocking story from a league that rarely produces incidents like this.

(47:58) As I was about to do some housekeeping to close out another podcast, I remembered to make a mention of Lionel Messi as he was introduced to South Florida and America when he'll embark on a career in the MLS with Inter Miami this coming weekend. I'll delve into this more on Thursday's podcast, so please come on back for more on his impact to Miami, the MLS and the American sports landscape.

MLB Teams Impacting Trade Deadline & Pennant Chase. MLBPA Wants To Tweak Pitch Clock? Spurs Baby Wembanyama. Zion's Short Memory. Djokovic-Alcaraz Clash? Must See TV? Jets On Hard Knocks

It may be quiet around these parts when it comes to sports, but I'll be sure to come across loud and clear with my thoughts, opinions and analysis on what's happening as the latest podcast is here. On deck:

(2:44) Us fans are ready for an intriguing 'second half' of a baseball season that has had a lot of surprise teams thrust in the middle of a playoff chase. The next two and a half weeks will be telling as the trade deadline is on August 1st. Which means, what will teams like the Orioles, Rangers, Reds, Marlins and Diamondbacks do to bring reinforcements and make a push for a playoff berth in October. I'll also break down all of the division and wild card races in the AL & NL. Why does Tony Clark want to tweak the pitch clock come postseason time? I'll review my over/under win totals to see where I'm at with my predictions regarding six teams dating back to late March.

(31:36) Are the San Antonio Spurs serious? Putting prized draft pick, Victor Wembanyama on the shelf for the rest of the summer league? I must voice my displeasure on that, as well as, Zion Williamson saying that he wants to be out there playing instead of sitting on the sidelines. Why didn't he have that same energy toward the end of the regular season when his team was battling for a play-in spot?

(38:13) We're down to the final few days at Wimbledon as we're one match away from an epic men's final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. Will it actually happen? On the women's side, heavily favored Iga Swiatek was upset earlier in the week by Elena Svitolina. Who'll come out of top and take home a title at the All England Club?

(41:26) HBO must be salivating at the thought of bringing their camera crews to the New York Jets practice facility next month. Will this be compelling television? Or will this end up being a dud?

MLB Home Run Derby Better Than All Star Game? Big Series Concludes 'First Half'. NBA's Gimmicky In Season Tournament! Boo To Fans At Wimbledon For Unfair Treatment Of Azarenka

As summer is in full bloom, we can't say the same about the sports world, but you know I'm more than capable to keep you abreast of what's gone on as the latest podcast has arrived. On deck:

(3:31) After a few words about how the sports landscape is a little barren as we approach the middle of July, baseball has come to its All-Star Break as the Home Run Derby will take place tonight, followed by the Midsummer Classic tomorrow night in Seattle. Does the actual Derby generate more buzz and attention that the All-Star Game itself? I'll share a little synergy with the past two prior games that were played in the Pacific Northwest. As the 'first half' concludes, I'll discuss the big series that took place over the weekend (i.e. Braves-Rays, Orioles-Twins, Cubs-Yankees, Mariners-Astros, Reds-Brewers, Mets-Padres, Dodgers-Angels) NOTE: I failed to mention Phillies-Marlins. My error and apologies there. Have no fear. You can get my analysis of that series on my YouTube channel @JAYREELZ. I'll also talk about the top two picks of the MLB Draft as history was made between two teammates (LSU's Paul Skenes & Dylan Crews) drafted 1-2 respectively.

(32:07) The NBA has announced their in-season tournament on Saturday night, where it'll culminate in an NBA Cup come December 7th in Las Vegas. Is this a gimmick? Too early to tell? I'll talk about Gregg Popovich's extension with the Spurs, his player Victor Wembanyama has been in the news for a rough outing Friday night, a bounce back performance on Saturday and a brief encounter with Britney Spears, which was much ado about nothing.

(41:38) A big trade took place in the NHL over the weekend as former Ottawa Senator Alex DeBrincat was shipped to Detroit for players and picks. Longtime LA King forward, Anze Kopitar re-up for three more years as he'll likely end his career with the only team he played for.

(42:50) Some controversy has surfaced at Wimbledon as the fans booed Victoria Azarenka after losing to Elena Svitolina after their match yesterday. Was it warranted? Was it unfair? Plus, a very disappointing defeat to Francis Tiafoe getting served in three quick sets. And the Carlos Alcaraz-Novak Djokovic finals match up is still in tact as we're into the second week of the tournament, hoping that we'll see both players go at it for a Grand Slam title.

A Slow Sports Week Highlighted By A Signature Mets Win, Braves-Rays & Ohtani's Blister. Unclear & Confusing NBA In-Season Final Four Tournament? Coco Gauff Bounced As Wimbledon Slogs Through

A rather slow sports week isn't going to stop your favorite podcast host to babble about what little is happening in the universe of competition. On deck:

(2:27) I share how this is one of the slowest sports periods that I've experienced since I've started the podcast five years ago.

(4:54) After my little soliloquy on the current barren landscape, baseball is what's getting us through this early part of the summer. Have the Mets started to turn the corner? In what was their biggest win of the year last night, they've won four in a row and look to sweep the first place Arizona Diamondbacks tonight? What is the most important thing for them to do (win, of course) to keep these good vibes going? I'll also get into other series that have taken place this week (Orioles-Yankees, Cardinals-Marlins, Cubs-Brewers roof debacle) and some series that have some punch this weekend before the All-Star Break (Braves-Rays, Orioles-Twins, Mariners-Astros, Mets-Padres, Angels-Dodgers, to name a few). Plus, a big lift in the bullpen for the Texas Rangers (acquiring reliever Aroldis Chapman from the Royals) and the Yankees will have to look for another reliever themselves as Jimmy Cordero has been suspended for the rest of the year due to violating the domestic violence policy.

(26:01) The NBA free agency period has come to a screeching halt as we await where James Harden and Damian Lillard will end up. Grant Williams is part of a sign and trade from Boston to Dallas with San Antonio involved. But the Association is about to unveil a plan to have an in-season tournament, which from the surface, comes across as unclear and confusing.

(31:27 ) There isn't much, if anything, going on in the NHL. Training camps in the NFL kick off in less than three weeks, but there's nothing to dissect at the moment. Wimbledon is a few days into its tournament. Not a lot of buzz has come out of the All England Club, unless you're Coco Gauff, who was bounced earlier in the week. Other than that, everything has been chalk as there have been no major upsets or developments out in London.

Braves MLB's Best, Bar None? Ho-Hum NBA & NHL Free Agency, Harden's Next Stop? Lillard On The Move? Alcaraz/Djokovic's Quest To Wimbledon Final? NFL's Crackdown On Gambling

If it's early July, you know it's warm weather, cookouts and celebrating another holiday as I flex my independence as a producer and host of your favorite little podcast with all of the latest in the world of sports. On deck:

(3:03) As of this moment, there is no question that the best team in baseball from top to bottom are the Atlanta Braves. I'll explain in great detail as to why, even over organizations like the Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros. I'll get into some of the key series that played out over the weekend (Marlins-Braves, Red Sox-Blue Jays, & Astros-Rangers, to name a few.) and peek at the series over the course of the Independence Day holiday.

(28:14) Free agency has begun in the both the NBA & NHL. First up, the Association. Not a lot of drama or intrigue with players changing addresses. In fact, quite a few players have stood pat with the teams they finished with last season (i.e. Kyrie Irving, Russell Westbrook, Draymond Green, Khris Middleton, Brook Lopez, Kyle Kuzma, Austin Reaves) among many others. The two big questions are where does James Harden end up as his departure from Philadelphia is forthcoming? And is there a destination for a one Damian Lillard (i.e. Miami, maybe?)considering his enormous contract and getting their worth for the perennial All-Star from Portland?

(42:22) As for what's transpired off the ice, there has been plenty of wheeling and dealing in the NHL, but to me, nothing to write home about. I'll get into what has taken place as of this point. How much I love the few tough guys in the sport (i.e. Milan Lucic, Ryan Reaves & Pat Maroon) getting free agent deals or in Maroon's case a trade? Plus, the Islanders re-up on goaltenders Ilya Sorokin, Semyon Varlamov & Scott Mayfield. Did these signings make them a lot better?

(47:53) Wimbledon has begun at the All England Club as the third major tennis tournament of the year has arrived. What will transpire on the women's side? Will Iga Swiatek continue her dominance? Will we have a better rematch between Carlos Alcarez-Novak Djokovic, but this time in a Final?

(54:47) The NFL has cracked down on a few players violating the leagues gambling policy. I'll share my thoughts on that. Plus, NFL fans rejoice. Training camps open up throughout the sport in a little over three weeks as I can certainly wait for another NFL season to commence.

Can The Heat/Panthers Delay Titles For Nuggets/Golden Knights? Mets Cohen Not Blowing Up Team. Rays: Built For Regular Season Only? Is Novak The GOAT? Belmont Blunder With Horses. UFC Nunes Retires

We're a week and change away from summer officially starting. If it's not warm in your neck of the woods, I'll ratchet up the intensity when it comes to heating up the airwaves as another fast paced podcast is forthcoming. On deck:

(2:53) With the fall & winter sports ready to crown a champion in the coming days, are we ready to enter the second phase of the Sports Dead Zone?

(4:10) The Nuggets are on the precipice of their first ever NBA championship as they won the two road games in Miami rather comfortably. Can the Heat thwart Denver's chance to clinch on their home court?

(14:20) Same could be said for the Vegas Golden Knights as they lost a tough Game 3 in the final minutes and overtime, but hung on for dear life at the end of Game 4 as they're on the brink of a Cup title. Will the Panthers rally the troops and take from their experience in the first round, where they were down 3-1 to the top seeded Bruins and pulled that series out in seven games? Or is it just Vegas's time to shine as they seek their first Cup win in franchise history?

(22:56) Sadly, the Mets are front and center when it comes to what's going on in baseball. They've lost eight of their last nine games, including a brutal third game in Atlanta. Owner Steve Cohen had a state of the union on his ballclub to say that he's not going to be reactionary and blow up the team. Is he right on this? I'll get into why this team has underachieved (i.e. Justin Verlander, anyone?) and are there any positive signs on the horizon? A team that's been on fire since the start of the season are the Tampa Bay Rays. Is it World Series or bust? Are they built more for the regular season than a short series? I'll discuss the red hot Oakland A's, winners of five in a row with a sweep over the Milwaukee Brewers. The Arizona Diamondbacks have thrived in the NL West. Break up the Miami Marlins as they share an identical record with the Los Angeles Dodgers?

(39:17) Novak Djokovic is now the all time winningest men's player when it comes to Grand Slams as he won the French Open over Casper Ruud. Is he officially the GOAT? Give it up to Iga Swiatek on the women's side as she gutted out a three set performance over upstart Karolina Muchova to win her third French and fourth Grand Slam overall.

(46:58) The NFL will stay relatively quiet until training camp next month. There was some player personnel moves the past week. Frank Clark goes from Kansas City to Denver. Dalvin Cook was cut from the Vikings. Are the Dolphins interested? De'Andre Hopkins is visiting with the Patriots. Is that a good fit?

(48:53) Arcangelo wins The Belmont Stakes, but a couple of horses had died after races over the weekend. What is going on with this sport? Is there going to be a crackdown on what's been taking place over the last few years?

(50:57) UFC's Amanda Nunes retain her title belts with a victory on Saturday night versus last minute replacement, Irene Aldana. She announced her retirement right after the bout as I throw bouquets to her on a great career.

PGA/LIV Elopement. What This Means For Golf? Jokic/Murray, Nuggets Put Heat On Griddle In GM 3. Can Panthers Recapture Playoff Magic? deGrom Done, A .400 Hitter In MLB? Messi's Impact On MLS?

There have been some interesting developments over the past few days in the sports universe and you've come to the right place to get your fix and then some as the latest podcast has arrived. On deck:

(2:53) I start off with the wildfires coming down from Canada over the past couple of days and how it's impacted where I live in New York City and what the experience was like.

(4:23) In a surprising revelation on Tuesday, the PGA Tour joined forces with the LIV Golf League to become one entity. Was this handled properly? How come the players on the Tour didn't have a say? What does this mean for golf moving forward? What about the players who stood pat and didn't take the money? There's a lot to unpack as I share my thoughts on how this blindsided yours truly and the rest of the golf world.

(18:35) Game 3 of the NBA Finals is in the books. If last night was any indication, the Denver Nuggets are on a quest to win their first NBA championship. The brilliance of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray as their record setting triple double performances have them up 2-1 in the series. Can the Miami Heat pull even after Friday night, in what will be a must game for them?

(25:59) Up the turnpike, the Florida Panthers need to get back in the Stanley Cup Finals as they're down 2-0 to the Vegas Golden Knights. After a Game 2 thrashing in Vegas, can they recapture some of their early playoff magic to win on home ice and even up the series? Will Panthers goalie, Sergei Bobrovsky rebound after getting pulled in Game 2?

(32:07) Quite a bit has happened in baseball since Monday's podcast. The wildfires have impacted a couple of games on yesterday schedule (White Sox-Yankees, Tigers-Phillies) but the big story is the injury to Rangers ace Jacob deGrom as he'll need to undergo Tommy John surgery and is done for 2023. As a Met fan, I can't say I told you so, but I knew it was best for the Mets not to re-sign him for this reason. Also, Aaron Judge and Nestor Cortes have landed on the IL. How long will they be out for a Yankee team that's played well of late? We have a hitter who's flirting with .400 as Marlins Luis Arraez is currently at .403. It's a nice story, but is it too early to discuss? And what about Reds top prospect, Elly De La Cruz? He's only played a couple of games, but has already shown why he was MLB's top prospect coming into this year.

(46:29) The French Open hasn't been compelling, riveting or provided a lot of drama, but the tennis world is waiting with bated breath for the titanic clash between Novak Djokovic vs. Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals on Friday afternoon.

(48:01) I spend literally twenty seconds on the final leg of Horse Racing's Triple Crown, The Belmont Stakes, which will take place early Saturday evening.

(48:23) Lionel Messi will make his way to the US as he announced he'll play for Inter Miami of the MLS. Will this have the same effect and impact when Pele played for the New York Cosmos back in the 1970's? Can his presence lift the sport of soccer in this country among the casual or average sports fan?

Heat Grit, Guts Even Up NBA Final. Can They Pull Off An Upset? Concerns For Panthers In Vegas With Game 2 Looming? Yankees Show Up In LA. Mets Get Swept, Head To Atlanta. Novak-Alcaraz Clash On Deck?

Into the first week of June with plenty to divulge and dissect as yours truly is here to entertain and inform you all on what's taken place in sports over the past few days. On deck:

(2:38) I'd be remiss if I didn't wish a happy birthday in heaven to one of my favorite athletes of all time, one time Detroit Red Wing, later with the Chicago Blackhawks, Bob Probert, who would've been 58 today.

(3:17) We have some buzz in the NBA Finals as the Miami Heat were able to get this series even and back to South Beach with the homecourt over the next two games. They prevailed in what turned out to be a nail biter in Denver last night as the Heat once again showed their grit and gutted out another big victory on the road. How good are their chances to winning an NBA Final and pulling off the upset? I'll break it all down for you as the scene shifts to Miami. I'll also get into all of the coaching hires that have taken place over the past week, including Monty Williams's record breaking deal in Detroit.

(23:57) As for the Stanley Cup Finals, the Florida Panthers find themselves in a situation that they haven't been in about six weeks. Trailing in a series. They lose Game 1 in Vegas Saturday night, 5-2 as they pick up the pieces for a huge Game 2 tonight, as they try to get back to South Florida, similar to their basketball counterparts, tied at 1-1. Are there concerns? Can they recapture the magic that has led them to the Finals? In coaching news, the Washington Capitals hired Spencer Carbury who at 41, is the youngest coach in the league.

(31:13) The big showdown in LA over the weekend had the Yankees taking the back two games of their series against the Dodgers. After Luis Severino's uninspiring performance (and spotty future) on Friday night in an 8-4 loss, they bounced back behind Aaron Judge, Jake Bauers, Domingo German and Anthony Volpe in 6-3 and 4-1 wins on Saturday & Sunday. Then there are the Mets. They swept the Phillies during the middle part of last week, but then get swept over the weekend against the Blue Jays at home, which leaves their record at 30-30. Up next? Three games in Atlanta versus the first place Braves as they continue their inconsistent play this year. You know I'll have a few things to say about this, including an underachieving Justin Verlander in his first month as a Met. I'll go through the rest of the baseball landscape as the Rangers stay hot, the Mariners can't find their way (same for the Padres) and the Pirates have played better as they keep pace in the NL Central. And is this the end for Nationals P Stephen Strasburg as he has nerve damage in his right arm and his career is in jeopardy?

(45:49) The French Open has had zero drama after the first week at Roland Garros, but there's a potential storm brewing. The stars are aligning to have the heavyweight match between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinal come Friday. What this could mean for a tournament that needs all the attention that it can get?
