Trust In Celtics? Can OKC/T-Wolves Take Next Step? Lakers/Dubs Staying Power Lead NBA Second Half? UConn Loss: Concerns? Rangers Cup Threat? College’s 12 Team Playoff. Mahomes Rule? Ohtani Overload?

Inching closer to the end of another month, but also the beginning of the latest podcast as I dive into all that’s happening in sports. On deck:

(2:53) With the ‘second half’ of the NBA season tipping off tonight, I’ll get into a breakdown of what to expect in both conferences as we march on to mid-April before the start of the playoffs. Are the Boston Celtics to be trusted to finally win an elusive championship? Can the Cleveland Cavaliers be a threat in the East? What about the Milwaukee Bucks? The Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers? How about the defending Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat? Out west, can the Minnesota Timberwolves or Oklahoma City Thunder represent in an NBA Finals? Will the Denver Nuggets defend their title? How about the LA Clippers getting to their first ever NBA Finals? You can’t forget about the LA Lakers or Golden State Warriors. Do they have staying power if they get into the postseason? So much to answer and I’ll have an in-depth look as to how this’ll play out over the last couple of months.

(26:00) As for college basketball, #1 UCONN suffers a rough road loss at #15 Creighton. Any concerns or worries about the Huskies? Also, #17 Kentucky loses to LSU on a last second shot as the unpredictability of this college season continues to rear its ugly head.

(31:18) On the ice, the New York Rangers are the hottest team in the NHL, winners of eight straight. Is this the year that they finally get to a Stanley Cup Final, considering what’s taken place over the last two seasons? I know the Florida Panthers are nipping at the heels of the Bruins and Rangers in the conference, winners of six straight as they try to get back to a Final. Auston Matthews has been on a goal scoring tear (had two last night in Arizona. Currently 51 on pace for 75). Alexander Ovechkin scored two goals vs. New Jersey the other night as he’s 56 goals away from tying Wayne Gretzky all time in the sport’s history. How many will he need to get this season in order to reach him next year? I’ll check on what else is going on in the league as they’re past the two-thirds point of the regular season.

(43:33) College football has their 12 team playoff format mapped out, but now there’s some discussion about expanding it to 14 in 2026? What!?

(48:57) In the late 1980’s, early 90’s, we had the Jordan Rules, where the Detroit Pistons did their best to defend Chicago Bulls legend, Michael Jordan. Fast forward thirty some odd years later, Las Vegas Raiders coach, Antonio Pierce, has the self proclaimed, Mahomes Rule after beating them on Christmas Day, their last prior to running the table winning the Super Bowl. Has he found the formula to slow or stop the Chiefs QB? Was this premature of him to say?

(54:12) Spring training is well underway throughout the MLB. Can we please stop with ALL of the attention regarding Shohei Ohtani’s batting practice home run in his first camp as an LA Dodger? Seriously!? Then there were the comments by Angels 3B, Anthony Rendon, stating that baseball isn’t his priority. WHAT!? Is there any concern in Yankee-land over Aaron Judge’s comments regarding his big toe that he injured in Dodger Stadium last June? Saying that he has to manage it over the upcoming season. You had former Royals 1B, Eric Hosmer announce his retirement. And here we go with the Mets. Projected ace, Kodai Senga has to be put on the shelf due to arm fatigue. ARM FATIGUE!? (It has been announced after the recording that he’ll likely be on the IL to start the season) As a diehard fan, you can’t make it up!

Mahomes GOAT Status? Chief Dynasty Or Not? Bitter 49er Loss Headline Classic End To A Non Classic Super Bowl. NBA Heads Into Break. NHL Needs Fighters! Pitchers/Catchers On Deck

It was a Super ending to a very good, but not classic game. I’ll unwrap all of what took place in Las Vegas last night and everything else that’s happening in sports as the latest podcast is at your fingertips. On deck:

(3:02) The legend grows with the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback. Is this a dynasty or a dynasty in the making? And a bitter loss for a franchise that hasn’t one a Super Bowl in almost three decades are the big picture items to unpack in a good, not great game, but classic ending in an overtime thriller where the Chiefs won 25-22 over the 49ers. I’ll get into every nook and cranny of the game, strategy, the biggest play of Super Bowl LVIII, is Patrick Mahomes the GOAT?, the halftime show, Tony Romo’s performance as color commentator, the rating of the broadcast and commercials as I put to rest another NFL season. I also have a big gripe with the Hall of Fame selection committee as they snubbed one time Chargers tight end, Antonio Gates, to be enshrined in Canton with Julius Peppers, Dwight Freeney, Patrick Willis, Devin Hester, et al. for the upcoming 2024 HOF class.

(47:53) The NBA is just about ready to take a respite as the All Star Break is approaching. I’ll get into what the latest is going on in the Association, including the aftermath of the trade deadline on Thursday.

(52:20) On the ice, the league has to deal with another incident on Saturday night with Maple Leafs Morgan Rielly cross checking Senators Ridley Greig in the neck after taking a slap shot into an empty net. Which begs the question for yours truly. Can we bring back the resident tough guy for each team on their roster? Alex Ovechkin inches closer to Wayne Gretzky’s all time goal scoring record, although he did eclipse Gretzky’s record for most empty net goals, if you’re into that. There are a couple of key injuries to report (Avalanche’s Nathan MacKinnon and Lightning’s Mikhail Sergachev) as they could miss quite some time, especially Sergachev.

(58:34) We’re just a few days away from pitchers and catchers reporting in MLB. I’ll share some thoughts on what Shohei Ohtani said about feeling like he’s a rookie again, the retirement of pitcher Corey Kluber and another small dark cloud hangs over the Mets franchise as former GM Billy Eppler was suspended for a year, although he’s no longer a part of the organization.

Belichick Out? Steeler Tradition Done? Games In Brazil? Oh! A Busy Week 15 Schedule. Giannis Overreacts Over Game Ball. Draymond Surprise Suspension. Spurs: 20 L's In A Row? Ohtani Contract Aftermath

It's been a busy past few days in the sports world and it's evident because I've got plenty to unpack as the latest podcast is here for consumption. On deck:

(2:52) With Week 15 in the NFL just about here, there were plenty of newsworthy items over the past few days. Starting off with the inevitable firing of coach Bill Belichick in New England. Is it a possibility? A probability? It's been a couple of rough weeks for the Pittsburgh Steelers of late. One of its best players in their teams history (QB, Ben Roethlisberger) has called out the organization as far as their tradition might be past them, as well as, taking shots at the head coach, Mike Tomlin, along the way. Is he accurate? Out of line? The NFL is going to expand their international reach as they're looking to have Brazil host a game next year. Is this an exercise of futility? Is this necessary? There's some news regarding the officiating front where the commissioner and VP of football operations have come out in light of the call in Kansas City on Sunday, where WR Kadarius Toney was in the neutral zone prior to the touchdown that gave the Chiefs the lead. What was said during those discussions and what may change? Oh! I'll preview a super busy schedule, which now adds Saturday to the mix with just about every game having playoff implications. I'll also pay respects to former Titans TE, Frank Wycheck, who passed away tragically last weekend at the age of 52.

(36:21) The Association has had some eventful moments the past 48 hours or so. Bucks forward, Giannis Antetokounmpo scored a career high 64 points last night vs. Indiana. How he acted after the game in searching for the game ball as a keepsake was a complete overreaction? Then you had Warriors Draymond Green suspended indefinitely for striking Suns Jusuf Nurkic on Tuesday night. As tired as his act has been throughout his career, was this too extreme? Will the Spurs ever win again? Of course they will, but they've lost 18 games in a row. Is there a chance they can snap their streak before the weekend is out?

(47:20) Off the ice, the St. Louis Blues fired their head coach Craig Berube. And what's this about the owner of the Washington Capitals & NBA Wizards, Ted Leonsis, wanting to move his teams to Northern Virginia by the end of the decade? On the ice, the Edmonton Oilers have been bulldozing the competition after a very slow start as they've won eight straight.

(53:34) Who would've thought that we're almost a week since the news of Shohei Ohtani signing his whopping $700 million dollar contract with the Dodgers, that it's still making waves. Whether it's the $680 million dollars deferred after 2033, an opt out that's rather odd and what this does for the team's luxury tax? Quite a bit to unpack as this MLB Hot Stove has been rather cool, even with the Giants (who made an offer to Ohtani similar to what the Dodgers did) signed Korean outfielder Jung Hoo Lee to a six year/113 million dollar deal.

Rule Changes, Ohtani's Future & Usual Suspects Lead Into MLB's 2023 Preview. Final Four: An Encore? Or Dud? KD's Back/Celtics Big Week. Wild's Huge Road Win. Commander Sale Means No Deal For Lamar

Let's rejoice as a baseball season begins, a college basketball tournament is coming to a close and everything in between when it comes to sports as I got you covered on all that's happening. On deck:

(3:42) After a few words of hope springing eternal, another lap around the track for yours truly, the long awaited baseball season is here! I'll discuss the top three storylines (i.e. rule changes, Shohei Ohtani & the Usual Suspects...you'll have to listen in order to find out!)heading into the 2023 campaign, breaking down the divisions, my surprises and disappointments and my World Series prediction, which may raise an eyebrow as I get your ready for the marathon that is the MLB.

(50:30) The Final Four will take place on Saturday to determine who'll become champions in college basketball. Will there be an encore to what we've seen to date? Can UConn continue to dominate?

(54:34) In the Association, Kevin Durant is back in the fold as he played his first game at home in Phoenix. Is there enough time in the regular season for KD to get ready for the playoffs? Plus, a battle out West as the T'wolves and Lakers could potentially fight for a play-in home game. The Celtics have a big few days ahead as they'll play the Bucks tonight, then the Sixers on Tuesday as they try to inch closer to the #1 seed in the East and away from the #3 seed where the Sixers reside at the moment.

(57:15) The Minnesota Wild won a big game in the Central Division as they have a little breathing room by beating the Colorado Avalanche last night. The Rangers will face the Devils as they try to catch them in the Metropolitan Division for home ice in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. I'll look at the latest with the wild card races as well, where the Islanders have put a some distance ahead of the Penguins in the East.

(59:34) We have two groups bidding for the Washington Commanders as the estimated cost could be around six billion dollars. At the moment, this does not bode well for Lamar Jackson as he's searching for a new destination, with very few teams that he can go to. Could this be a Le'Veon Bell 2.0 situation? Will he sign the franchise offer by the Ravens?

NFL Bubble Teams After Week 11. Harbaugh's D-Day. NBA News. Miguel Andujar Robbed of AL ROY

As we head into Thanksgiving Week, there are plenty of football dishes to be served up as I’ll place them all around the sports table on this weeks edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. It was another wacky, zany week in the NFL as we saw some separation between the pretenders and contenders. Teams that were already on the bubble (i.e. PHI, ATL, GB, JAX, even WSH, perhaps?) have put their seasons on the brink. Get my take on all that happened in Week 11, with a look to the Thanksgiving games and Week 12, plus, are the Saints/Rams and Chiefs shoo-ins for the Super Bowl? The College Football season is slowly coming to an end, but not before the highly anticipated matchup between Michigan vs. Ohio State. How big of a game is this for UM coach, Jim Harbaugh? What does this mean for his coaching legacy at Ann Arbor? I’ll dig in to that, and, get into what’s happening with the Golden State Warriors? Is Carmelo Anthony’s NBA career done? And why Miguel Andujar was robbed of the AL Rookie of the Year? It’s a sports feast that you won’t want to miss on the latest episode of The JAYREELZ Podcast. (Episode 40)
