Tougher Loss: Astros Or Phillies? D-backs-Rangers World Series Preview. 49ers: The System Or QB? Weak College Football Saturday. NBA's First Two Days. Bruins Pick Up From Last Year. What About Vegas?

As we get set to embark on the 2023 holiday season, with Halloween forthcoming, it's time to hand out some early tricks and treats with all that the sports world has to give as the latest edition is here. On deck:

(2:58) The World Series is set. Before I preview a very unlikely matchup between the Diamondbacks-Rangers, I have to dissect the brutal home losses of the Astros and Phillies in the previous round. Which team/fan base had it worse? The Astros won a classic Game 5 in Arlington only to come home to blow the final two in their building? Or the Phillies, who had been unbeaten at home, losing Games 6 & 7 and four out of five to an 84 win Arizona team? I'll uncover all of that, plus, preview who'll win and who I'm rooting for to win the Fall Classic as it commences tomorrow night. I'll also chime in on some managerial news where Bob Melvin goes from San Diego to San Francisco, while the Mets (to no surprise) will interview former Brewers manager, Craig Counsell.

(25:14) Is it time to be concerned about the San Francisco 49ers? Not only have the lost two in a row, they will not have starting QB, Brock Purdy as he's in concussion protocol. With Sam Darnold, the backup, taking his place, is it more the system or is it the QB? We'll have to wait and find out, but it's an interesting question to address. I'll peek at the Week 8 schedule, where there's a smattering of decent games as we inch closer to the halfway point of the season.

(31:15) College football's Saturday schedule is looking rather thin as we're still a few weeks away from big time conference rivals facing one another.

(33:56) The NBA season is just a couple of days old. I'll get into a couple of Nuggets (pun intended) as they completed a 'five game sweep' of the Lakers. I'll explain. Also, Kristaps Porzingis's Celtics debut, Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama's first game and Luka Doncic's triple double in the same game. Former NBA player Kenyon Martin recently stated that Doncic's teammate, Kyrie Irving is better than Luka. I'll debate that as we're just getting started on a new campaign.

(38:49) Are the Boston Bruins picking up where they left off from last years marathon of a regular season? They are currently 6-0 as an encore to their record setting 2022-23. Colorado has gotten off to a torrid 6-0 start. But wait, what about the defending Stanley Cup Champion Vegas Golden Knights? They are 7-0 as they've shown zero hangover from winning their first championship.

Which Astros Team Will Show Up In GM 7? A Phillie Coronation? Lions Tamed, Dolphins Trapped, Bills Corralled In NFL Week 7. Penn St. Comes Up Small. A Major Injury In NHL. NBA Over/Under Totals

Your favorite little podcast host is playing injured as I'm fighting a head cold, but that won't ever stop me from sharing my feelings on the latest that's happening in the sports universe. On deck:

(2:51) Have we seen this movie before? The Astros were down 0-2 going to Arlington in the ALCS. They came away with a three game sweep, including a dramatic ninth inning comeback in Game 5, with a chance to wrap up the AL pennant last night, but lost 9-2 to set the stage for tonight. They lost all of their home games during the 2019 World Series when they had home field advantage. Will history repeat itself four years later? Or will they come out victorious to see if they can defend their title? What about Rangers starter tonight Max Scherzer? Can he slay some recent playoff demons on his end to put his team into the Fall Classic for the first time in a dozen years? As for the NLCS, there could be a coronation in Philadelphia today as they look to reach a second consecutive World Series? We're getting toward the end of the LCS as the MLB has some drama, which we didn't think would be the case four or five days ago.

(21:39) NFL Week 7 answered a few questions about some teams that have big expectations this year, but came up small. The Lions were tamed big time in Baltimore as they were blown out 38-6. The Dolphins were competitive, but can't be trusted to win a big game on the road with a loss in Philadelphia. And the Bills did have a lead, but were unable to hold off the lowly Patriots in Foxborough. Are those teams to be taken seriously when the money is on the line? I'll go through the rest of the schedule, including my beloved Steelers and how they win these games with smoke and mirrors.

(40:18) Penn State had a chance to make a statement by winning a huge game at Columbus against Ohio State. Instead, they shrunk in the big moment in a 20-12 loss and have taken themselves out of the running for one of the top teams in the nation. The Crimson Tide were down by double digits at home at the half, but came on with 27 unanswered points to beat Tennessee. Then USC will not be heard from the rest of this season as they lose to their kryptonite the Utah Utes. I'll go through which teams are at the forefront of the college football playoff mix as we're past the halfway point of the season.

(50:13) There was big news in the NHL as they had to hold their collective breaths when Oilers superstar, Connor McDavid will be out for 1-2 weeks with a dreaded upper body injury. Can the sport afford to have their best player out for any significant time?

(54:18) The NBA tips off their season tomorrow night. I'll go through some over/under win totals and will clue you in on a surprise or two as I'll choose my six prior to my NBA preview set for tomorrow afternoon.

Road Warrior Astros Get Back In Series. Phillies On Mission To Win NL Again. Dolphins-Eagles Headline Rough Week 7. Penn St. Big Opportunity To Move Up In Ranks. Spurs Wembanyama Hype Overboard?

Another big sports weekend awaits. You know I've got you covered as I'll detail all of the latest and greatest throughout the landscape. On deck:

(2:30) Both League Championship Series in baseball are in the middle games as we look to see who'll face off in the Fall Classic. The Houston Astros have gotten off the mat in the ALCS and drew a game closer, thanks to the ineffective mercenary Max Scherzer. Can the defending world champs push this series back to Houston and possibly take a 3-2 lead? As for the NLCS, it looks like the Phillies are on a mission to repeat as NL champs, up 2-0. Will the Diamondbacks make this a series as the scene shifts to Arizona? I also have some thoughts on how this has been a postseason to forget at this point, the Marlins major screw up as former GM Kim Ng departs and what got into former MLB and now retired pitcher, Trevor May as he had some choice words for Oakland A's owner, John Fisher?

(23:07) NFL Week 7 has a huge Sunday night game(i.e. Miami at Philadelphia) and not much else. Does this game mean more for the Dolphins? Eagles? You do have the Lions going to Baltimore to play the Ravens. After that, it's a rough go on Sunday. I can't help but rail against how this season has been underwhelming due to several factors. Plus, my issue with the schedule and how the product is being worn thin that you'll have to tune in and hear for yourself.

(32:59) College football's Week 8 schedule has a couple of intriguing matchups, headlined by Penn St at Ohio State. I'll get into how this is a huge game for the Nittany Lions if they want to rank with the Buckeyes or Michigan Wolverines in a weak Big 10 conference.

(36:33) The NBA season is just five days away and the hype surrounding Spurs #1 pick, Victor Wembanyama has gone overboard. Now we have to watch highlights of him making passes to other players who are missing shots in a PRESEASON GAME?! You know I have quite a bit to say about this as we get ready to watch his rookie year unfold.

(42:42) On the ice, the NHL has been quiet since we last met on Monday. I'll briefly touch on Blackhawks #1 pick, Connor Bedard and the start of his first week plus in the league. Also, which teams have gotten off to a good start and who hasn't?

Vacation Recap To Paris/Rome. MLB's 100 Win Playoff Disappointments. AL/NLCS Preview. SF/PHI Fall From Undefeated In Awful Week 6. Huskies In College Football Playoff Mix? NHL & NBA News

Your favorite little sports podcast host is back on the scene after a week layoff. I'm excited to present my viewpoint on all of the latest happenings in sports. On deck:

(2:47) As the podcast took a respite last week, I'll get into my quick sojourn visiting the charm of Paris and the rich history of Rome. The most perfect weather a vacation could ever have, the sights, landmarks, etc. as I enjoyed seven days outside of the States.

(5:21) We're onto the American League & National League Championship Series as we're closer to the Fall Classic in baseball. I'll take a big picture view at first to discuss is it the layoff or schedule that's affected the 100 win teams (i.e. Orioles, Dodgers & Braves) as they had early exits in the Division Series? I'll talk about Game 1 in the ALCS as the Rangers draw first blood vs. the Astros. Can Houston rebound at home where they've been subpar all year? Then I'll breakdown the NLCS between Diamondbacks vs. Phillies. Are the D-backs game to pull off another upset? Or are the Fightin' Phils destined to get back to the World Series? In other news, history could possibly be made in San Francisco as they've interviewed Alyssa Nakken, who is on the Giants coaching staff, to be the manager in what would be a first in North American sports.

(29:23) The last two undefeated teams in the NFL (i.e. 49ers & Eagles) were upended over the course of a three hour time span. San Francisco loses at Cleveland behind QB Brock Purdy's worst performance as a pro. Later, the Jet defense rose to the occasion forcing the Eagles into four turnovers in an upset 20-14 win. I'll share my disdain for the NFL pondering a Super Bowl to be played in London somewhere in the distant future. One that I'm not in favor of, so you won't want to miss that. Week 6 was a lame one, if you ask me as this season hasn't been compelling or riveting, to say the least.

(45:53) Don't look now, but there's a team in the PAC-12 that making waves toward the top of the rankings in the nation as the Washington Huskies won a wild game vs. Oregon on Saturday. Are they college football final four material? I'll delve into the landscape of the sport as they're at the halfway point of the season, with teams jockeying for position to see if they'll be a part of the playoff mix come New Year's Eve.

(50:54) Hockey fans, the NHL season has arrived. For my over/under point totals, please check the YouTube channel linked below. Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews has gotten off to a torrid start as he's done something only four other players have ever achieved in the history of the sport.

(53:29) The Association (aka NBA) tips off a week from tomorrow. James Harden is still in Philadelphia. Please wake me up if he's been traded to another team before the season begins because I can't hack this soap opera anymore. Plus, the Celtics hire a former coach and analyst (Jeff Van Gundy) to become a consultant and the Bucks look midseason ready with the dynamic duo of Dame & Giannis, drawing rave reviews by the team and throughout the league.

Astros Dynamic, But Dynastic? NFL Abomination At Halfway Point. Georgia Shows Who's #1 As Clemson & 'Bama Fall. NBA Soap Opera: As The Nets Burn! Bruins Pressured To Cut Prospect?

The first podcast of November delivers a lot of sports heat as I’ve got lots to get off my chest on this latest edition. On deck:

(3:40) The Houston Astros have finally reached the MLB mountaintop after losing in 2019 and last year as they capture their second title in six years. I'll recap the final four games of the series. Are they a modern baseball dynasty? As for the Phillies, there were two moves by the manager, Rob Thomson, that'll make you question well into the winter of what could've been if he didn't pull his starters in Games 4 & 6. Now that the World Series is complete, we can focus in on free agency. The Mets have re-signed closer Edwin Diaz to a record breaking contract. Was he worth the nine figure deal?

(28:19) If you've listened to me over the weeks, months and years, you know I call it like I see it. As we approach the midway point of the NFL season, I wasn't going to wait another week to make this official. The first nine weeks have been an ABOMINATION! I go into great detail as to why that's the case and how this has been a season to forget. I'll share my thoughts on some of the key trades made at the deadline last week, the sale of the Washington Commanders, and the untimely deaths of Hall of Fame punter, Ray Guy. As well as, one time Hog of the Redskins offensive line, Dave Butz.

(47:26) Georgia showed the nation who's the #1 team in college football. They suffocated the Tennessee Volunteers offense as they shut down their high octane offense on Saturday. There was also a huge loss by the Clemson Tigers as they get bounced by Notre Dame and Alabama loses their second game of the year, and in all likelihood, a shot at the college football playoff. I'll take a look at the college landscape as to who'll be in the running to play in the Final Four come New Year's Eve.

(54:08) The NBA has a full blown soap opera that's running 24/7 it seems. It's called the Brooklyn Nets. The past week exemplified how from one day to the next, they've become a daily TV drama. From the firing of coach Steve Nash, to the rumors of signing former assistant and Celtics coach, Ime Udoka, the controversy surrounding Kyrie Irving posting on social media about a film with anti-semetic themes which led to a five game suspension, have made this franchise a three ring circus yet again. I'll talk about how well the Cavaliers have played after losing the first game and are on an eight game winning streak.

(1:04:56) The Bruins averted a public relations disaster as they signed, then released 2020 prospect Mitchell Miller, who was convicted of bullying and racially abusing a kid many years ago. Was this justified? The Penguins have hit the skids as they're mired in a seven game losing streak. Does Sidney Crosby and company still have what it takes to be an elite team? And congratulations on another goal scoring milestone to Alexander Ovechkin becoming the all time leader in goals scored for one franchise at 787.

Astros/Verlander: On The Ropes In Philly? A New Look NFC? Cold Water On Vikes/Eagles In NFL Week 8. Vols-Dogs SEC Matchup. Bucks: NBA's Best? Bruins: NHL's Best? Taking Jake Paul Seriously?

There will be plenty of tricks, treats with a few goblins and ghosts sprinkled in as your little sports podcast host has lots to share on this creepy, spooky Halloween episode. On deck:

(3:05) The World Series is two games in and both the Phillies-Astros are tied at one apiece. Now the scene shifts to Philadelphia for the next three. What could we possibly expect? Can the Phillies continue their winning ways at home, where they haven't lost in the postseason? Could Justin Verlander be in a situation where he needs to take his team home to take a series lead or survive to see another day? Lots of fascinating and compelling storylines as Game 3 and the series picks up tonight.

(17:58) Who would've thought that in Week 8 of the NFL season the NFC would NOT have the Rams, Buccaneers and Packers at the top of the conference, let alone their respective divisions? I'll share my winners (49ers & Seahawks) and losers (Panthers & Jets) and throw some cold water on chasing points on senseless two-point conversions (i.e. Bears vs. Cowboys), the Vikings and Eagles as they've only lost one game between them this year. Don't worry, I'll fully explain why I feel a certain way about the two front runners in the NFC.

(48:51) College football was very low key this past Saturday. Ohio State took care of business against Penn State to stay at #2 in the country, but they do have some company as Tennessee is tied with the Buckeyes for the second best team in the nation. Tennessee goes to Georgia on Saturday in a Clash of the Titans in the sport. I'll get into some bad losses by Oklahoma State and Wake Forest, two teams at the bottom of the top 10 who were ambushed by Kansas State and Louisville, respectively.

(52:49) The Association ends the month with the Lakers finally getting a win, a losing streak and more issues with Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn, but the bigger story is the Milwaukee Bucks. They are the last undefeated team in the league. Are they also the best at this juncture of the early part of the season? I'll take a look at what else is going on throughout the NBA as we're almost three weeks in.

(59:06) On the ice, the Boston Bruins have been the league's best almost a month into the campaign. (Although the Golden Knights are right there with them at this point.) I'll skate through what's going on in the NHL, including the Arizona Coyotes are now playing their home games where? A college university? And what is it called?

(1:05:08) Jake Paul was victorious in an eight round bout over MMA legend, Anderson Silva on Saturday night. Should we take him seriously as a fighter who has ability, but hasn't faced an opponent in his weight class or ilk on a professional level?

Phillies Magic Carpet Ride/Astros Primed For Second Title: A World Series Preview. Is LA Flirting With Judge? A Snoozefest NFL Week 8/College Week 9 Schedule. Lakers/Nets: Concerns Over Slow Start?

I’m in a championship mood as the sun is starting to set on the month of October, but your little sports podcast host continues to rise as to what the sports world has to offer. On deck:

(3:05) The World Series stage is set as the Phillies will invade Houston on Friday and Saturday night to play Games 1 & 2. I'll have all of the juicy storylines, the road for the AL & NL Champions to this point and predict who'll win the Fall Classic? There's also been some news regarding impending free agent, Aaron Judge, as rumors of the Dodgers being a participant in the sweepstakes of the Yankee slugger. Was this too soon? Speaking of the Yankees, it's been reported that manager, Aaron Boone will return for his sixth season in pinstripes. Is Brian Cashman not to far behind in joining him as his contract is up? And why did the Yankees use the 2004 Red Sox for motivation as they were down 0-3 vs. the Astros in the ALCS?

(30:44) NFL Week 8 is another snoozefest of a schedule, although the Thursday night matchup (Ravens at Buccaneers) is intriguing. If things broke right, you can have all four teams in the NFC South tied for first place with 3-5 records! I'll touch on some of the big stories that took place this week (Colts Matt Ryan benched for Sam Ehlinger, Matt Jones starting for the Patriots and the Jets trading for RB James Robinson) as we get through a bore of a slate and into November.

(39:30) College football's schedule is just about the same, although you do have #2 Ohio State visiting 13th ranked Penn St. Do the Nittany Lions have a shot to upset the Buckeyes and throw a wrinkle into the playoff discussion?

(42:15) Nine days into the NBA season has (who else?) the Lakers and Nets being the talk of the league. Is there concern over the Lakers 0-4 start? What about the Nets beginning their season at 1-3? Kyrie Irving is telling Ben Simmons to shoot! Do we have to keep our eye on that development? I'll take a look at the landscape throughout the Association as to what's the latest and greatest.

(52:13) Golden Knights Phil Kessel is your new NHL ironman as he eclipsed the record just recently held by longtime defenseman, Keith Yandle. Is this a record that should be cherished? I'll also get into what else is happening on the ice as the season is barely three weeks old.

Yankees Pivotal Game 2 A Must? Can SD Win Two In Philly As AL & NLCS Is Underway. Top Teams On Byes Lead To Weak NFL Week 7. Pelicans Show Out, Suns Show Up & Celtics New Coach Highlight NBA

The little engine that could keeps on steaming down the track as your little podcast host continues to pump out the passion, fire, energy and fury on all that's happening in the sports world. On deck:

(3:28) We're into the Championship Series in the MLB where the Astros drew first blood in Game 1 against the Yankees. How imperative is it for the Bombers to win Game 2 if they have any chance to punch their ticket to the World Series? Also, the Padres get even as the scene shifts to Philadelphia over the weekend where the series is tied at 1-1. I'll look into my crystal ball to see what could possibly happen over the next three days as we await to see who'll come out of each league and represent in the Fall Classic?

(20:57) NFL Week 7 is looking pretty light, as evidenced by three of the top teams in the league to date (Buffalo, Minnesota and Philadelphia) all on byes this week. I'll take a look at what's on the football table to see if there is anything appetizing in prime time, at 1:00pm or 4:25pm as we inch closer to the halfway point of the season.

(26:17) The same can be said for Week 8 in college football as there isn't much to write home about (does Syracuse-Clemson tickle your fancy?) I'll go over what may be worth watching and what isn't?

(29:17) The NBA fan can rejoice as the season is underway. I'll get into a couple of storylines of the first two nights (LeBron lashing out some truths at his teammates in a loss against Golden State, Zion & the Pelicans handle the Nets, Phoenix exacting some revenge against Dallas) and how the Celtics interim coach, Joe Mazzulla will navigate a team that went to the Finals last year, how he'll fare this year and when the true test will be for the first time head coach?

(40:21) I can't forget the hockey fan as the NHL is now nine days into their campaign. I'll take a trip around the ice to see what has transpired over the first three or four games and a surprise last place team that no one was coming.

The 'Not Too High or Too Low' Theme From NFL Week 1, Except? Steelers 'Not Ready For Primetime', Mets 'Not Ready For Postseason' Tirades, MLB Wild Card Latest, Rafa Wins, Serena Loses AGAIN at US Open

I'm in a feisty, awful sports mood, so hide the women and children, because Episode 90 promises to be full of smoke and fire. On deck:

In fourteen NFL cities this morning, either they're setting up the Super Bowl parade route or ready to draft for the number one pick. But there are two excpetions. I'll explain. I'll also go around the league and assess the damage up in Foxborough as the Steelers no showed vs. the Patriots.

The Mets have put their postseason hopes in the trash after a brutal loss in Washington and losing two out of three vs. Philadelphia. Mickey Callaway may have seen his managerial position go out the window with some very questionable moves this week. I have plenty of ammunition on this and I'll also recap the latest in the AL & NL Wild Card races.

Rafael Nadal has inched closer in his quest to catch Roger Federer for most Mens' Grand Slam titles. Serena Williams has now lost back to back Wimbledon and US Open Finals as she's stuck on 23 Grand Slam victories. Hear my take on both legendary figures and what may lie ahead in 2020 now that the Tennis Slams are done for the year.

Plus, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

The Mets Postseason Hopes On Life Support, NL/AL Wild Card Recap, NFL Player Movement, Novak 'Retires' From US Open

September has arrived, new beginnings on the horizon as we sink our teeth into Episode 88 of this latest sports talk party. On deck:

The Mets have fizzled at home where they've been successful, but have thrown their playoff hopes into Flushing Bay. I'll recap the week that was, and analyze if there's still a glimmer of hope? Plus, the AL/NL Wild Card races and the Yankees counting down the days until they secure their first division title in seven years, but shudder at the thought of one of their key players coming back.

Are you ready for some football? We're just days away from the start of the 100th season of the National Football League. I'll catch up on all of the player movement that took place over the weekend. Are the Miami Dolphins tanking? And I'll rehash if we've seen the death of the NFL preseason as we know it.

I'll also chime in on the latest that's going on at the US Open Tennis Tournament, Week 1 of the college football season, and of course, my Hero and Zero of the Week.

MLB's Wild Card Races Heat Up, Andrew Luck's Sudden Retirement, NFL Over/Unders, College Football Kickoff, US Open Tennis Preview

It's time to put the second Sports Dead Zone to rest as Episode 87 is revved up and ready to deliver what the sports universe has to offer. On deck:

The up-to-the-minute breakdown of the AL & NL Wild Card races, including the Mets squandering a chance to get closer to securing the second wild card spot. Also, the Yankees mash in LA as they continue their west coast trip.

Colts QB Andrew Luck has stepped away from game after his sudden retirement on Saturday. There has been a lot of backlash from critics and fans alike. Hear why I think they're crazy and need to keep quiet about Luck walking off into the sunset. I'll share my thoughts about the possible 'death of the NFL preseason' and take a look at the over/under win totals for 2019.

The college football season has kicked off a little earlier than usual, but the full slate begins this weekend. I'll tell you why this collegiate sport compares to recent NBA seasons. That's right. You'll be sure to want to hear this hot take.

Plus a US Open Tennis preview and my Hero and Zero of the Week.

Bryce's 13 Year Marriage with Philadelphia, MLB's Remaining Free Agents, Witten's 'Un'-Retirement, Tavares Long Island Nightmare. Plus, Lakers/Celtics Misery

We move full steam ahead into the month of March with all that’s going on in the world of sports on the latest edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The Philadelphia Phillies have won the Bryce Harper sweepstakes with a record setting 13 year, $330 million dollar contract, but is this REALLY the place he wanted to play? I’ll get into every nook and cranny about what his signing means for the Phillies, the NL East and his legacy that you won’t want to miss. I’ll also talk about some other key free agents that are out there for the taking as we’re one week into spring training throughout the MLB. Jason Witten has made news by coming back to play for the only organization that he’s known in the Dallas Cowboys, leaving his Monday Night Football gig at ESPN. Has the year off reinvigorated the former All-Pro tight end? I’ll share my thoughts on what his return to the ‘Boys means and if the bad press of becoming a commentator was one of the reasons for ‘un-retiring’. I’ll also have more on the Antonio Brown fallout in Pittsburgh in regards to recent comments on ESPN. Is he not to blame for what went on in the final weeks of the season? What teams are rumored to be in the running for the soon to be former Steelers WR. Lots to discuss regarding those questions and others around the NFL. Former Islander captain, John Tavares was Public Enemy #1 this past Thursday on Long Island. More importantly, the Islanders are in the midst of a big five game homestand against their toughest competitors in the East, in which they let down the last couple of games including to the surging Washington Capitals. I’ll recap what was a wild scene at the old barn and take the pulse of the blue and orange as they head into the final month of the NHL season with the slimmest of margins at the top of the standings. Including, calling out an old Ranger (Sean Avery) who had some not so nice things to say about the Islanders in the wake of Tavares’s homecoming. Plus, all that’s happening throughout the NBA, College Basketball and much more on this weeks episode of The JAYREELZ Podcast. (Episode 57)
