It’s officially spring! The Madness is in full effect! A baseball season is about to begin! And we’re into the homestretch of the NBA & NHL regular season. Chock full of sports chatter for your earbuds as I deliver all of that and then some on the latest edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. We are down to sixteen teams in the NCAA Tournament. I’ll recap what took place over the weekend, including a miraculous outcome for the Duke Blue Devils, and review what lies ahead as we set our sights on the Final Four. I’ll touch on a couple of NFL tidbits. The retirement of Rob Gronkowski. Is he a Hall of Famer? The Ides of March are here and the sports world is starting to shape up as I have a lot to get into on this weeks edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The Antonio Brown saga in Pittsburgh is finally over, but the aftermath is just beginning. AB strong armed his way off the team, got a new deal and is heading west to Oakland in the process. Who are the winners and losers in this complicated transaction? You’re going to get an earful of sound bites from yours truly as I have a ton to say about all of what took place over the weekend AND what lies ahead for the disgruntled former All-Pro, the Steelers and the Raiders as well. The NFL year commences on Wednesday with plenty of moves on the docket. I’ll get into some of the major player movements that have taken place and what could be on the horizon throughout the league. The Yankees have a major issue to deal with at the top of their pitching rotation as Luis Severino will be out indefinitely with rotator cuff inflammation. What does this mean for the Bombers moving forward? Is there a trade forthcoming? You’ll get my take on what may happen next for the Yanks as we’re two and a half weeks away from Opening Day. The Knicks continue their quest for finishing with the worst record in the NBA. But they’re making news off the court thanks to their owner, James Dolan. I’ll get into what the latest incident regarding the despised leader of the organization was involved in, and yes, maybe it’s time to SELL THE TEAM as what was directed at him during the end of Saturdays’ Kings-Knicks matchup. We move full steam ahead into the month of March with all that’s going on in the world of sports on the latest edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The Philadelphia Phillies have won the Bryce Harper sweepstakes with a record setting 13 year, $330 million dollar contract, but is this REALLY the place he wanted to play? I’ll get into every nook and cranny about what his signing means for the Phillies, the NL East and his legacy that you won’t want to miss. I’ll also talk about some other key free agents that are out there for the taking as we’re one week into spring training throughout the MLB. Jason Witten has made news by coming back to play for the only organization that he’s known in the Dallas Cowboys, leaving his Monday Night Football gig at ESPN. Has the year off reinvigorated the former All-Pro tight end? I’ll share my thoughts on what his return to the ‘Boys means and if the bad press of becoming a commentator was one of the reasons for ‘un-retiring’. I’ll also have more on the Antonio Brown fallout in Pittsburgh in regards to recent comments on ESPN. Is he not to blame for what went on in the final weeks of the season? What teams are rumored to be in the running for the soon to be former Steelers WR. Lots to discuss regarding those questions and others around the NFL. Former Islander captain, John Tavares was Public Enemy #1 this past Thursday on Long Island. I’m closing out the month of February in strong fashion as I deliver all that’s happening in the world of sports on this edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. Manny Machado has finally found a home in San Diego. With all players reporting for spring training, there is still one big fish out there not signed to a major league contract. Will Bryce Harper come to agreement with the Phillies who are hot on his trail? Or possibly the Dodgers, as they’ve stepped into the mix to procure the former MVP? You’ll get my up to the minute analysis on where this road may lead to and why I believe Philadelphia shouldn’t be a destination for the former National. All of the talk last week in college basketball was the injury to Duke’s ballyhooed freshman, Zion Williamson. It sparked a national debate on whether he should sit out for the rest of the season and enter the NBA Draft, how college players should be paid, etc. But I’ll give you the real reason why this is a story at all and I’ll point the finger as to who is the culprit in all of this mess. Then you have the developments of Friday’s charge to New England Patriots owner, Robert Kraft of soliciting a prostitute in a massage parlor in Florida. There’s still more to come with this story, but I’ll share firsthand why we shouldn’t jump the gun on prosecuting Mr. Kraft, but also should’ve known that this firestorm was going to come whether or not he’s guilty. There’s a potential standoff rising in Flushing as Jacob deGrom and his agent are looking for a long term payday, but the Mets aren’t quick to pull the trigger because the reigning Cy Young Award winner still has two years left before he’s a free agent. I’ll share my take on what needs to be done and how this deal may possibly make or break this team for years to come. Also, some thoughts on the NHL as teams will start to buy or sell with the trade deadline a week away, Colin Kaepernick and the NFL have settled and Duke rises back to number one in the country. A champion has been crowned in the NFL, NBA players are ruling the roost and are we close to a decision on where Bryce Harper and Manny Machado are headed? Those are some of the topics I’ll discuss on this weeks edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The NFL season went out on a whimper as the Patriots defeat the Rams in the lowest scoring game in Super Bowl history. I’ll recap the good (not much), the bad (quite a bit) and the ugly (i.e. Sean McVay and Jared Goff) as this was a game to forget. A lot of talk has been made about Super Bowl MVP, Julian Edelman on whether he’s bound for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I touched on this two weeks ago (Episode 49) and I’ll revisit this again as to why he is NOT going to Canton. I’ll wrap up my Super Bowl thoughts on the commercials, the halftime performance and the who IS going to Canton for the Class of 2019. The NBA had a fascinating week of the court with all of the buzz generated by Anthony Davis (trade request), Kristaps Porzingis (trade request granted) and Kyrie Irving (trade in the works?) as we’re just a few days from the trade deadline. Players are more in control of their fate than ever! I have tons to say about this, so you’ll get an unfiltered view on why this is bad for the league? Lastly, have we gotten any closer as to where the top two superstars on the free agent market (Bryce Harper & Manny Machado) will end up? There have been talks out in San Diego as the Padres throw their hat in the ring, but at least for one player, he may have come to a decision as to where he’ll go. And while I’m on the subject, I’ll go through the list of finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which will be announced later in the week and share who’s a lock and who’s not worthy? Plus, you have the three All-Star Games over the next three weeks for the NFL, NHL and NBA. Does it matter? Does anyone really care? And with Anthony Davis requesting a trade out of New Orleans, what teams will be involved? Will it happen before the trade deadline on February 7th? The stage is set for the big game in two weeks. I’m here to provide how both the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots got there, plus all of the latest in the world of sports on this edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The NFL hit a grand slam on Championship Sunday with epic overtime games in New Orleans & Kansas City. The Rams were able to eke out an win, but not without controversy. The officials admittedly blew a key third down call late in the game that will have lasting effects throughout the offseason. You’ll get my take on why that call wasn’t the reason the Saints lost and why pass interference calls should NOT be reviewed. The Patriots do it again. They’ve made their fourth Super Bowl in five years, five in eight and nine in eighteen during the Brady/Belichick era. I’ll share what put the Pats over the top and how Brady’s magic and Belichick’s mastery sealed another trip to the Super Bowl. Also, what this loss means for the Chiefs moving forward? I’ll get into a few of the storylines heading into the week before the Super Bowl and shed some early light on the game. An early Christmas gift to the hockey fan, especially the hockey fight fan, is in store on this edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. Over a seventeen year career for the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks, Bob Probert was the most feared player in the NHL. His presence and fighting ability were legendary, but with that came addiction to drugs and alcohol. His death in July 2010 sent shockwaves throughout the league as all of the excess and abuse unfortunately caught up to him. My guest shares his experience detailing the man, myth and legend in an upcoming documentary titled, Tough Guy: The Bob Probert Story. Filmmaker Geordie Day delves into the making of this film, the challenges he faced, the genesis of how it all came together and what’s the message he wants the people to come away with watching this movie. It’s an in-depth look on one of the most polarizing athletes of the past thirty years (and for some, may never heard of), but you’ll have your chance to get to know more about the man they called, ‘Probie’ on the latest episode of The JAYREELZ Podcast. As winter slowly approaches, the sports scene heats up as I’ll dissect all that’s going on with this weeks edition of The JAYREELZ Podcast. The final quarter of the NFL season has begun and it certainly did not disappoint. Wild finishes in Miami, Oakland and Kansas City were just the start of another wacky Sunday in the NFL. Also, the Jets and Giants were both victorious on the same day in almost two years, with big contributions from their respective first round picks, Sam Darnold and Saquon Barkley. I’ll get into that and everything that took place over the weekend in Week 14 across the league. A Heisman Trophy winner has been crowned in college football. Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray gets the nod, but not without controversy. I’ll reveal what the furor was over what the QB said, and what makes for an interesting matchup with fellow nominee, Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa in the college football playoff on December 29th. But all eyes are looking ahead to Conference Championship weekend as to who’ll be the last four teams standing for the right to play in the FBS playoff come December 29th.
